Porpoises rescue Dick Van Dyke
Source: The Guardian

Van Dyke's ordeal began during an ill-fated trip to his local beach. "I woke up out of sight of land," the 84-year-old actor told reporters. "I started paddling with the swells and I started seeing fins swimming around me and I thought 'I'm dead!'"

Van Dyke was wrong. "They turned out to be porpoises," he said. "And they pushed me all the way to shore." The porpoises were unavailable for comment.

19. An unexamined life isn't worth pushing back to shore.
I guess it was the penguins who told the porpoises that Mr. Van Dyke's life was well-examined and found to be one of the ones worth saving.

37. I ran into Dick Van Dyke near his (then) local beach about 20 years ago.
Marina Del Rey. I was visiting an elderly relative who lived there, and went for a walk for some fresh air. I looked up, and coming toward me was a kind of lanky older man in shorts and flip flops with a nice smile. I smiled back as if I knew him, and then realized who he was and froze. He chuckled, waved, and went on.

I was thrilled, because I'd run into Bert, a favorite character from one of my favorite movies of all time, off on one of his adventures. ;)

I have no trouble believing that he fell asleep on his surfboard and was helped back to land by porpoises. :D

Dolphins get a lot of good publicity for the drowning swimmers they push back to shore, but what you don’t hear about is the many people they push farther out to sea! Dolphins aren’t smart. They just like pushing things.
