2500 and counting. Thanks DU for petitioning that NYC public schools be led by a true educator.
Here is a letter I just wrote my Assemblyman.

Dear Assemblyman Ortiz,

Hello, my name is E. Rodriguez and I am happy to say that I voted for you this past election day. Congratulations on your return to the Assembly.

I am urging you to demand State Education Commisioner Steiner deny the newly appointed NYC School's Chancellor, Cathie Black, her waiver to run the city schools.

Ms. Black, a publishing executive, does not have the experience required by New York State law to be responsible for educating the 1.1 million NYC public school students.

In fact, other than being a New Yorker, she has little in common with these students, their parents or teachers. She did not attend public schools and sent her own children to a $45k per year elite boarding school in Connecticut.

The students of NYC deserve a dedicated and successful educator as a leader, not a media mogul whose main qualification seems to be that of sharing social circles with Mayor Bloomberg.

Already, over 2500 students, parents and teachers have signed a petition to deny Ms. Black the waiver. I am confident that you share our convictions, and look forward for your support.

Thank you,

E. Rodriguez

1. I would be shocked beyond belief if Bloomberg paid any attention at all to what the people want.

3. Approval is in the hands of Commissioner Steiner
Bloomberg has too much power and many people are very unhappy with this appointment and the overall direction of the schools. As head of the NYS Education Department, Steiner needs to exercise his own check on Bloomberg.

2. But...but...she's on the Board of COCA-COLA
And there's coke in the lunchroom, so surely that makes her qualified! And NYC might be able to get a discount!

I share your disgust, and it's a great letter.
