WSJ article: GOP will have more influence in the Senate because
Dems will be afraid of consequences in 2012 election...only 9 republicans are up for re-election, but over 20 Dems will facing the voters, WSJ predicts lots of noise, but not much will be accomplished in the next 2 years. They think democrats will be even more reluctant to do anything that will make them stand out, and that they are regretting passing the healthcare reform act.

4. The day after the election, I posted a panel from weekly standard
they the GOP will seek out Dem.Blue Dogs, and DLCers.
Offer them a deal they cannot refuse. If the Dems vote
with them, they will not put up a serious challenge
to them in 2012. No RNC No outside groups will run
attack ads against them. This is their strategy.

This panel also said there were Blue Dogs they did not
target, No outside group ads No RNC Ads, such as Taylor
in Miss. Taylor votes with GOP on any significant legislation

However Taylor openly trashed the Party Obama and Pelosi.
The GOP did not challenge him in any way. Guess what
Trashing Obama etc kept Taylor's base at home.
Taylor did NOT vote for Health Care, Stimulus, Cap&Trade.
Yes, he lost.

5. Someone should remind those "fearful Dems" that it was the
Blue Dogs who got creamed this past election.

Frankly, if they DON'T do anything for 2 more years they deserve to go. I know where MY support and contributions will be going, it will be going towards the re-election of Politicians who actually stand for something and try to get shit done!

8. And the filibuster will go away
Wasn't the White House saying they'd push to end the 60 vote requirement even if the Democrats lost the majority?

Well, now that the Republicans are only a few short of 50, there can be no doubt they can recruit a few Democrats to their cause on whatever legislation they wish to pass.

Just as congressional Democrats always fear the consequences of their actions, so too are congressional Democrats too fearful of standing as one. There will always be a few congressional Democrats willing to join with the Republicans. Call it "reaching across the aisle" or whatever.

10. the filibuster is going nowhere
though I wish it would. Among Senators with any degree of senority only Harken wants to see it go. I have a better chance of winning the Boston Marathon than we have of seeing the filibuster reformed in this or the next session of Congress.

9. Even with a 60/40 senate the Republics still had the upper hand
Democrats endlessly watered down things to get votes that never materialized. It was certainly brilliant maneuvering by the GOP.

13. Please forget the LW vs RW. It's about big money versus Americans
The real enemy to average Americans is more about Wall Street, international CEOs, banksters and the lobbyist manipulators who tout the use of right wing versus left wing to define it.

The enemy is big money and the suckers are us.

12. Why are Dems afraid of corporate money?
I can't believe that Obama who had such huge political capital in 2009 allowed the Republicans to define him. But then what do you expect when his Chief of Staff and Treasury Secretary represented Wall Street instead of Americans?

The problem with today's Democratic Party is that they are beholden FIRST to corporations and lobbies for other countries and while hoping to still get votes from Americans.

I'm ready for a Coffee Party that stands up for real Americans.

16. Of course they'll have more influence, they'll have more seats then before
Seriously, anyone could tell you that gaining 6 seats in the senate gives you more influence even if you're still in the minority.

There's no reason to write up big long elaborate explanations of why, the GOP has more influence because they have more numbers then last time duh.

The only way that could change is if they suddenly got rid of/changed the filibuster in the next congress.
