"President Obama Screwed You. Wait, No He Didn’t."

November 11, 2010 by Sarah Jones

"As for Republicans nattering on about tax cuts and permanency, first of all, there are NO permanent tax cuts and second of all, when did the Republicans last tell you the truth? They are the ones who jumped on this and claimed Obama was “coming around”. Now why would anyone believe John Boehner over President Obama? Hello????
I marvel at the American public who still hasn’t learned to double-check what they read and are still so eager to fall out of love with their own President that they jump on any excuse, regardless of how flimsy it is and how little they know about the issue, to express their superiority and disgust. Oh, and to make matters worse, the talking point of outrage usually begins with a nugget from a Republican whose agenda it is to get you all riled up. "

(snip)

"Comfort yourselves with this: If Obama does screw you, you will know about it from a verified source and you won’t be wasting all of this energy hyperventilating over something that isn’t even real courtesy of the weeping elephant you’ve invited into your mind for permanent residence. Please stop smoking the GOPPER crack and stop reacting to every half-baked piece of “news” designed to enrage you."

5. No, Huff Post just lied and misrepresented the content.
Axelrod said they would be willing to consider a compromise. HuffPo presented that as "OBAMA BOWS AND SCRAPES TO REPUBLICANS ON TAX CUTS, PERSONALLY FELLATES BOEHNER."

11. "White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts"
Which is what the White House is doing...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/10/white-house-gives-in-on-bush-tax-cuts_n_781992.html

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's top adviser suggested to The Huffington Post late Wednesday that the administration is ready to accept an across-the-board, temporary continuation of steep Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest taxpayers.

How is this different than Axelrod's position today?

16. Reading the truth, is better than reading the 'spin' - see below
UPDATE: White House denies extension of Bush Tax cuts for the rich

The White House is sharply denying the Huffington Post story I noted below claiming that David Axelrod signaled a willingness to accept a temporary extension of all the Bush tax cuts, claiming that their position remains unchanged.

Axelrod emails:

There is not one bit of news here. I simply re-stated what POTUS and Robert have been saying. Our two strong principles are that we need to extend the tax cuts for the middle class, but we can't afford a permanent extension of the tax cuts for the wealthy.

And White House comm director Dan Pfeiffer adds:

The story is overwritten. Nothing has changed from what the President said last week. We believe we need to extend the middle class tax cuts, we cannot afford to borrow 700 billion to pay for extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and we are open to compromise and are looking forward to talking to the Congressional leadership next week to discuss how to move forward. Full Stop, period, end of sentence. - WaPo

20. Notice the word "permanent". Huffington Post reported that Axelrod said that
a temporary extension is on the table. There is nothing in the non-denial denial that refutes that.

On September 7th, Obama he would not compromise on extending the tax cut for the wealthiest 2%. Now they both signal that they are willing to compromise the tax cut issue in order to preserve tax cuts for the middle class. Exactly what are they willing to compromise?

14. Yep, per usual.

In its earlier days, they provided much timely and factual stories that were almost completely absent in the MSM. Now, they're not much better than Newsmax and Drudge, the Freeper fave sources for BS and corporate propaganda.

I suppose it's tough in this economy for "news" outfits to maintain any ethics in journalism, especially when it's soooo much more profitable to sell the peeps on the Republicorp agenda.

19. It's remarkable the way what used to be the American LEFT has entered into alliance with Freepers
and other right wing lunatics.

The so-called progressives are a disgrace.

22. I hear ya.
I think that formerly trusted sources are guilty of bait and switch, and a lot of progressives blindly follow and believe the crap that is dished out.

The best approach, IMO, is to follow the most obscure stories, those that have been buried. Often, these articles present what's really going on, not those that are hyped in the MSM.

against renewing tax cuts for the wealthy and against cuts to Social Security and Medicare. I'm ready when he is!

6. He already has, remember?
He's been out beating the drum for months about keeping the middle income tax cuts, and not renewing for the top 2%. It's only been in nearly every speech he's made.

and then out comes Axelrod.

24. So why did you say you look forward to Obama saying something you know he's already said?
Other than wanting to always believe the worst of him.

the sources have soured. Time to be much more sober and discerning.

18. I'm a teacher, Obama has already screwed me,
Thus it is pretty easy to believe he will do so again. Wait, he did it again by not following through on his promise for a public option. Hmm, becomes much easier to believe he will do so again. Whoops, then there's that whole Gitmo promise that he has yet to follow through on. I'm sensing a pattern here.

25. It's a funny thing, we have something called "Congress".
They're the ones that make the laws.

A lot of people seem to act as if they thought they'd elected Obama to a 4-year dictatorship, where he'd be able to enact progressive laws by decree.
