Jon Stewart: The media needs to talk about corruption instead of ginning up a Red v. Blue political fight. The Red v. Blue contest deflects attention from the real problem in America which is corruption. (That was his real point tonight.)

Me: The media profits from the corruption, what you suggest would not be in their best corporate interests.

1. He's Pointing At Apathy...
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 02:51 AM by KharmaTrain
It's easy for many here to yell that Stewart doesn't get it...but he sure appears to have his hand on the pulse of one BIG issue...there are many who are turned off by politics, politicians and the partisans on all sides. False equivalency doesn't matter here as its the perception not the substance...that both sides have turned off many who see our political system as corrupt. It could be said this is what hurt the Democrats as the drop of young voters (Stewart's prime audience) and minorities in this year's election did as much to help the GOTB than anything they said. Had 10% more of those between 18-30 who voted in 2008 had shown up this year we would have seen different results. Instead many sat home.

As others have said, Stewart isn't a journalist, but a satirist...and his most telling line is how he relates more to Seinfeld than he does to politicians. I'm sure many here cringed when he said that...but he's representative of a lot of people out there who turned off by ALL the bickering and doesn't matter where it comes from. It also shows the power and importance of writers. What Jon says isn't always his words but those by others who appear to "get it" a lot more than he does.

(On edit: spell-checked to make my parents happy)

2. I appreciate your comments.
You might want to change the eleventh word in your second paragraph to "satirist" cuz the way it is spelled is going to attract some voyeurs from google. :-)

4. Who Cares...
It's 2am, can't sleep and won't lose anymore from spelling trolls. If they can't get the meaning, they didn't want to see it in the first place.

:hi:

3. Corporate press is not going to engage in unveiling of elite crimes ....
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 02:45 AM by defendandprotect
We are relying on people like Jon Stewart to do that and too much of the program

has become too silly --

Get back to work, Jon -- and stop attacking other liberal hosts actually trying to

repel right wing violence and propaganda ...

5. That would be okay if the corruption was 50/50.
Currently the GOPukers are FAR out-corrupting the Dems...so no Jon, we need to talk about the SOURCE of all this corruption and it is called Republicans.
