It's easy for many here to yell that Stewart doesn't get it...but he sure appears to have his hand on the pulse of one BIG issue...there are many who are turned off by politics, politicians and the partisans on all sides. False equivalency doesn't matter here as its the perception not the substance...that both sides have turned off many who see our political system as corrupt. It could be said this is what hurt the Democrats as the drop of young voters (Stewart's prime audience) and minorities in this year's election did as much to help the GOTB than anything they said. Had 10% more of those between 18-30 who voted in 2008 had shown up this year we would have seen different results. Instead many sat home.
As others have said, Stewart isn't a journalist, but a satirist...and his most telling line is how he relates more to Seinfeld than he does to politicians. I'm sure many here cringed when he said that...but he's representative of a lot of people out there who turned off by ALL the bickering and doesn't matter where it comes from. It also shows the power and importance of writers. What Jon says isn't always his words but those by others who appear to "get it" a lot more than he does.
