General says demand for land forces will increase

Demand for land forces will continue and maybe increase in coming years, the four-star general in charge of the Army's combat forces said Tuesday.

"I do not see a peace dividend in the future," Gen. J.D. Thurman said in Fayetteville.

The United States is involved in "persistent conflict," he said.

The war is entering its 10th year.

"I do not know when it's going to be over," he said.

"The National Guard and Army Reserve are playing a key role, Thurman said.

"We could not do what we're doing without our reserve components," he said.

Thurman said he worries about reservists in remote locations away from large military installations and the support they offer."

Well..yeah...like having wars on 2 fronts for ten years.
