Why do you think the taxcuts were not voted on before the election??
Supposedly, a few "Blue Dogs" were afraid it would hurt their election chances and it was decided not to have the vote.

However, most rational Democrats were telling the Party to make the Republicans take a stand. Make them defend the taxcuts for the wealthy against the middle class taxcuts. But the Democrats decided to punt. And the Repubs ran it back for a touchdown!

Why do you think they did not vote on the taxcuts before the election? Do you think that was a good idea?

3. Devil's advocate - Dems thought Repubs would lie in ads and say "Democrats raised your taxes"
even though the Dems gave 98% of people a tax cut.

However it didn't matter, the Repubs lied anyway.

4. Democrats are convinced, and probably with good reason, that they can not win a tax showdown
with Republicans. They have been labeled as "Tax and Spend" for so long even they believe it...If Republicans could Impeach a President in a Lame Duck session there is no reason we can not pass a middle class tax cut... but they won't, they have already signaled they will give the Republicans anything and everything they want.
