Has DU gone crazy? Obama is a coward and Stewart is the enemy? What's next, Nancy Pelosi is a
traitor? What's happening to us?

It makes me sad but I don't think I'll be spending much time here anymore. I remember when this was Democratic Underground, now I'm not sure what it is but it's sad to see us attacking each other. I think Obama is a very nice man with a very nice family who is trying not to be caught up in hate. I think we heard John Stewart say exactly the same thing. For this they are derided and scorned.

May I suggest a new name, "Anarchist Underground".

our fight for KO against MSNBC. It comes in waves. We're at out best when we join together to fight a common foe. Left to our own devices we're at each others throat over everything and anything.

Yes, we can disagree but, sometimes these threads turn into a slug fest.

I've slummed to Freeperville where a bunch of bobble head just parrot each other. I wouldn't want or expect DU to be that way but, sometimes...

Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 07:28 PM by EV_Ares
Know what you are talking about OregonBlue, I remember you. I have now just dropped in a few times lately to see what was going on here. Left some time ago because of what you are talking about. I don't agree with President Obama on some things & don't understand some of the things he has done, but if anyone would take a look at his accomplishments in his first two years, it is unbelievable whether you like some of them or not. Jon Stewart is great, simple as that and he is going to only be stronger as time goes on. Regardless, the problem we have is the republicans are pretty much made up of whites, all of them pretty much agree on one agenda, they now have the tea baggers assisting them to their right.

We on the other hand are made up of a lot of various groups, environmental, gays, womens' rights, animal rights, etc., minorities so we have a hard time everyone getting on the same page.

Whatever, as you have said, things have changed here.

Obama's pretty well a triangulating capitulating coward though. QED. (Reality has an anti-spin, public-opinion-negating bias.)

Stewart's become what he's always mocked: a spout of false equivalencies positing that there are two sides and only relative truths...start out satirizing the hypocrisy of the media and end up becoming exactly what you satirized. What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul?

69. Can someone explain how drivel like this gets 9 votes?
John Stewart is derided and scorned because he says Obama is a nice man with a nice family!!!

Has DU gone crazy?

71. Yeah, the anarchists are the ones calling for more and stronger government programs and regulation
and "real" Democrats believe the era of big government is over and tax cuts fuel the economy.

Mhmmmmm.....that sounds right, yup.

73. Jon Stewart's a liberal, and now everyone on this site is saying otherwise...
The Rally to Restore Sanity was obviously a response to Glenn Beck's rally. Jon Stewart's saying that we need to stop the corruption, not because of Obama's Administration, but because the GOP bullshit machine has gotten incredibly out of hand during Obama's Presidency.

83. The OP is standing on his head...
... and wondering how the furniture ended up on the ceiling.

Politics is not a sport, or a consumer preference. For most people, it holds very serious implications. For some, it is deadly serious.

The basis of politics is a set of fundamental differences amongst the mass of people along several, well understood, fissures. In turn, this forms the foundation of national politics, political parties, movements and the rest. Finally, there is a superstructure of politicians, iconic figures, and the superficial chaff of political competition.

If there is an erosion of the stature of the OP's various political icons (let alone all of them), and if the same thing is occurring in the Republican Party, then that is not an indication that everyone but the OP is "crazy", but that the political superstructure is no longer aligned with its basis.

The OP knows this. Otherwise, there would be no silly calls to political loyalty based on niceness or "hate". Instead the OP would describe how his icons or loyalties still best represent the crazy people's interests.

The "other side is worse" meme will only work so long... particularly when the "other side" is going through exactly the same process and when the whole is super-heated by the worst crisis in several generations.

The OP might consider sitting down in that easy chair on the ceiling and seriously thinking about whether any of this is really about "niceness", "hate", or "derision".
