Media Matters David Brock wins auction for lunch with Rupert Murdoch
Ouch for Rupert!

Washington, DC - Media Matters for America today won an online charity auction to have a "friendly lunch" with News Corporation chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch.

In an online charity auction benefitting the Global Poverty Project, Media Matters won the lunch with Mr. Murdoch with a bid of $86,000. The online auction site, Charity Buzz, described the event as a "once in a lifetime chance to sit with self-made billionaire Rupert Murdoch, face to face over a friendly lunch and get his feedback first hand on your proposed business ideas. Valid for a total of 6 people." The meeting will "take place over a friendly lunch at a mutually convenient time in New York City, exact location to be determined."

Media Matters founder and CEO David Brock released the following statement:

I look forward to this opportunity to have a friendly lunch with Rupert Murdoch, along with five of my invited guests. I will soon contact Mr. Murdoch's office to determine a mutually convenient time and place in New York.
