BREAKING: Deal ends Democratic leadership fights (Hoyer to be Whip)

BREAKING: Deal ends Democratic leadership fights
By: CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash

(CNN) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has struck a deal that ends the leadership fight for the number two slot in the new House minority, multiple senior Democratic sources tell CNN.

Under the compromise, Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, the current House majority leader will become the Democratic whip, which will be the number two spot in the new Democratic minority.

South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn agreed to end his bid for that spot and instead hold a new, third ranking leadership post that will be created for him. The sources say the title and portfolio for the spot is yet to be determined.

2. He's one of the leading Liberals in the House
Also was chosen to head the Dem Caucus in the House. Although he's from a red state, his district is one that I believe was gerrymandered for an African American Rep.

Clyburn has an excellent voting record--google him for more info. He pops up frequently on MSNBC, and is always impressive, no matter the issue.
