When you imagine the future....
10 - 20 - 30 years from now, who do see in power?

I see more and more young people turning to the Democratic Party. Over the years, they will see repubs trying to undermine their retirement plans and their health care and see Democrats fighting for those things.
And all those older repub voters will pass away leaving more young voters who want gay marriage, a woman's right to choose, affordable health care, and not having to work until they are in their 70's.

Or, do you think that the Democratic party will become less liberal as time goes by?

Do you see our country collapsing because of the harm repubs have done to this country on behalf of the big corporations and the wealthy?

1. If the economy doesn't improve, I could see the rise of two more parties:
The Tea Party and some sort of socialist party.

The "mainstream" democrats and republicans seem out of touch with the concerns of working people.

7. I believe we will see the rise of a centrist party...
...consisting of today's DLCers and the remaining moderate
Republicans. They may keep the name of the Democrats,
but it won't be the Democratic Party we used to know and
love; the old Democratic Party will be gone.

The current Republican party will devolve into a rump party
of Southern White Racists.

And a new party, probably the Greens, will emerge on the
left.

This country has always had bigots, racists and idiots. Seems like lately they have become more "mainstream". When people bring it out into the open, that usually allows like minded to spew their vile crap too.

At least in the vision of Gene Roddenberry, people had come to appreciate their differences.

24. naw, that's in 10 years. In 20 they'll be getting dragged into the streets and executed.
In 30 we should hopefully just be getting over the civil war and the resultant reconstruction.

6. As I sit on my porch sipping my tequila and lemon-aide
I watch as the MPs drive up and down the streets looking for liberals.
I watch the government buildings burning, they were the first to go.
Next were the churches. It seems the religions could not decide with religion this country would be the one to rule.
The schools turned into worker training factories.
Oh look, another park is being turned into a loading zone, a place to confine the ones that just would not get with the corporation program.

And this too shall pass. I do not know............

9. It pains me to say this, but
kids today are clueless.

I don't want to paint them with such a broad brush but they haven't a
clue as to how their society works.

have at it.

11. Whose fault
is that? If we had a better educational system, they might be a lot smarter. And it's not just the schools. Parents are going to have to take over a lot of the education for their children by teaching them what the schools will not.

17. As imagine the future I am glad that I probably have only 30 years left.
What does it matter who is in power? The Republicans have already demonstrated what they can do as the minority party, so big deal if demographics are against them. Then again they also manage to get in SC justices who chart the course of laws for decades after they were appointed.

I see the empire collapsing as it can no longer sustain its massive military budget with its troops spread out all over the world and having to support insanely expensive weapons systems while looking for an excuse and opportunity to use them.

I can imagine an economic collapse as most of the wealth get concentrated at the top with a population now more than twice what it was in the Great Depression. Will the next one be called the "Greater Depression".

Add to all of this how the environment has been screwed, little done to prevent the disaster and nothing done to deal with its consequences and I'm glad that I will likely not see the middle of this century.

20. You missed one point.
When that collapse hits, those guns and troops will be turned against us. The police will steadily become more paramilitary in nature, and the hate media will turn many Americans into bigots again. The results of that will be immense, horrible race riots and civil unrest which costs hundreds of people their lives and destroys whole sections of American cities. That gets said people more paranoid, with the end result being America looking more like South Africa circa 1990 than the current United States. Including using the army and Marines to help police the furious, destructive masses.
