Some of the most touching, evocative photos of the Depression and the Dust Bowl . . . . .
. . . were taken by photographers commissioned by the Roosevelt adminstration? Pictures like this one:

They were intended to chronicle the tragedy and elucidate the public.

Today we tend to hide such things. Bush even institutionalized such hiding with his "no dead soldiers" rule.

My how we've evolved.

2. A very vivid and helpful
way to look at the human fallout of tyranny. We must learn to look our neighbors in the eyes once again...a veggie swap over the fence, a social outing to our local farm.

3. As a student of that time in history I appreciate
Roosevelt's role in the recovery. Ultimately the only way the President could effect a fix was by a true understanding of the problem, something I am not convinced has happened yet with our current problems.

A great first person story about growing up in the heart of the dust bowl.

Walt has lived an amazing journey of which this story documents the beginning...a great liberal mind to this day.

Thanks for the reminder Stinky. We lose so much when we allow the propaganda to dictate what we will hear, see and read about. K & R!

5. I'm sure you've read my journals, wherein I am determined to bring
evocative photos and video to the fore. Unfortunately, it seems that except for the chronic homeless, the newly or episodic homeless are turning out to be very hard to find, generally residing in someone's spare room, garage, or a trailer in the driveway or backyard.

I'm having to resolve a few things back here at home, then I intend to hit the road again and try again with better data and hopefully some exposure on the problems so many are facing with foreclosures, unemployment, and the new homelessness that is occurring.

There are a lot of great photographs by her on the web. At your leisure, you can probably Google them all.
