4. Purely manufactured
I think if you mentioned Park 51 to the average teabagger or RW extremist (aka republican), they wouldn't know what you are talking about. They have the attention span of fleas and do only what Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, and Hannity tell them to. Pathetic.

5. They've barely begun to fund the project much less break ground.

There are huge obstacles still to be surmounted.

It was a manufactured controversy in that there isn't anything tangible yet. Even regarding the economy, who knows if pockets will be flush enough at that time.

7. Yeah, it's pretty much a scam.
Once I read their website and noticed the changes they were making in what the building was supposed to be and be used for, I realized I had nothing to worry about.

No way to get that through the Religious Freedom! hysteria, though.

NY imam's NJ building in temporary receivership

NEWARK, N.J. — A northern New Jersey apartment building owned by the imam planning an Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero in New York has been put into temporary custodial receivership.

The Jersey Journal of Jersey City reported Saturday that Hudson County Judge Thomas Olivieri issued the order this week, citing a lack of improvements at the Union City site owned by Feisal Abdul Rauf.

Tuesday's ruling is the latest in the lawsuit Union City brought against Rauf in late September, alleging that he's failed to address code violations.

Olivieri's decision means the tenants October rent payments will be used to eliminate bedbugs from four apartments, cap sewer lines in the basement and improve a fire escape ladder. The work must be done by Dec. 9.
