I worked for Obama in 2008 and feel no remorse.

Given what I knew then, and even what I know now, I believe it was the only reasonable choice. Electing Obama did accomplish some things. We got some legislation we would not otherwise have had. In particular, it somewhat slowed the rate at which we're circling the drain, and most of all, it showed us who our friends and enemies really are.

I think we now have to plan how to wrest control from the plutocrats, starting from the bottom. I will be meeting with selected friends over the next few months as we try to take back our local government. I've initiated the idea of a county platform. Although most of us are members of the county Dem party, we intend to operate outside the party because we want to exert our influence in certain "nonpartisan" races like the County Board and town boards. It is in these low-level races that a bit of organization can pay off in big ways because nobody puts much money or effort into winning them, so they are rather ripe for a takeover. This is, of course, a lot like what the right started doing years ago when they launched their resurgence.

8. Chippewa County.
No telling just how red we went. Our assembly race is still hanging on a recount. Less than 100 votes difference, I believe.

2. And at this point he still remains the only reasonable choice. In 2012
who knows.

3. No regrets here, either.
'Disappointments' aside, I believe he'll (eventually) turn out to be one of the best presidents we've ever had.

4. In no way do I regret my vote. Out of the options we were given,
it was a no-brainer. That sentiment is not in conflict with my disappointment and frustration with his Administration, though.

5. I have never in my life been so grateful
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 11:50 AM by BlueIris
I didn't get my hands dirty with a campaign. I can't imagine how much more used and complicit I would feel if I'd been involved in that. I own the fact that I chose to vote for him, and given the information I had in hand the days I cast my votes, I still contend I made the only choices I could. But I will always regret those decisions. I should have known better, and truth be told, I did know better. I just wanted to believe he would be a decent president anyway.

6. Great post from someone who "gets it".
I am so sick of the pity party that is going on here 24 hours a day. I don't feel even 1% remorse for having voted for Obama. The alternative was frightening beyond words. Thanks for your work at the local level. This is where it starts and where we all need to get involved.

14. Did you vote Nader in 2000
And if so, did you feel no remorse when the GOP laughed at our face, knowing Nader had given them Florida?

Do not think just because you voted your "conscience" that we will not hold you to account for giving the GOp what they need to win.

16. I don't live in Florida.
How are you going to "hold to account" those that voted for Nader in 2000? Sue them? Make them wear Scarlet Letters? All because Gore couldn't or wouldn't win their votes?

If you don't vote YOUR conscience, what do you vote for?

12. Great idea. Most Congress members come out of county boards
and city councils. The House of Representatives are local representatives.

13. I have no regrets about supporting the President. I remain
aware of the fact that he doesn't lead a cult in the house/senate, like shrub did. I plan to support his re-election as well.

15. I do.......
I sent him $2600 and worked my ass off to "change the way Washington works". I will vote for Obama in 2012 but doubt I will donate or work for him unless things change!
