Schumer: Obama Will Rebound, Surprise Us, Must "Focus on Middle Class
N.Y. Senator Says President Must "Focus on Middle Class Like a Laser"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/11/14/ftn/main7053911.shtml

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said today that he believes President Barack Obama will restore the American Dream for the middle class.

"He's going to surprise a lot of people with how strong he will be down the road, because I believe he will focus on the middle class like a laser," Schumer said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Schumer suggested there was a disconnect between the Democrats' accomplishments and how they are perceived.

"Congress the last two years been historic," he told host Bob Schieffer. "We've passed major pieces of legislation, four pieces that will go down in history as one of the most significant Congresses we've had. But two of them, the TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) - which was passed the previous Congress but it gets attributed to us - and the stimulus, prevented bad things from happening. There were about 10 million people probably who are working now who would not have been had we not passed those laws, but they don't know who they are.

7. Displaying that strength straight out of the gate might have been a little more useful.
Just sayin'. If you don't procrastinate, then you don't have to work twice as hard in half the time.

8. I'm afraid, Senator, that the foul-smelling American people know exactly what was in those
ever-so-historic accomplishments you cite

it's not a perceptual problem on the part of the American public, it's a Beltway problem on your part

9. the problem is...
that "must focus on the middle class" thing is an illusion... helping the middle class involves those things that few recognize. The middle class will do well when ALL are doing well; poor, old, young, labor, business, environment, etc... the middle class is not something special.

It is all beyond the realm of realistic consideration for the vast majority.

10. There is a lot of word parsing needed to spin this story as negative.
A lot of effort to do so.

Thanks for posting.
