Democratic Rep. Ben Chandler wins close Ky. race
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler finally won his close re-election race Friday when his Republican challenger conceded 10 days after Election Day.

A re-canvass of the election results a few hours earlier moved just one more vote into Republican Andy Barr's column and gave Chandler a 648-vote margin of victory. Chandler's win in a district that Republican John McCain carried in 2008 represented one of the few bright spots for Southern Democrats this month and ended a costly contest that featured heavy TV advertising by both sides.

4. Razor-thin margin!
Next time some vote-suppressing malcontent suggests staying home on election day, tell that individual to FOAD!

6. To get people to accually vote and
not stay home and watch porn, they should offer a tax credit of like I dont know 100 or 150 dollars to anyone who votes.

9. KY has Dems

This Democrat just gave up 3 months of her life to work on electing Democrats in Kentucky.

ETA I came to Kentucky from NJ and am now back home. I had a good time while I was there.

8. Yes it was finally called
I may not agree with everything that Ben Chandler has done or all of his voting record (voting against HCR) but he's a good guy and helped out our campaign a lot. I'm glad to see that Andy Barr finally gave up.

10. My "uneducated" guess would be that he'd probably be considered a "Blue Dog" by many here on DU.
Think back to the months before this mid-term election. Now recall all those HOWLS of outrage, whenever Obama was perceived as`"deferring to those DINO Blue Dogs". Now imagine what the electoral loss would have been, had Obama conspicuously distanced himself from them in the weeks before the election. Who here would have rejoiced at the outcome of that?

11. He is considered a blue dog
And his district is a fairly conservative one (having spent most of the last 3 months there). I've also been off DU in that 3 months too so I can't speak for what went on here.

His big thing that pissed off the left in his district is his vote against HCR. However he said he would have voted for it had it come down to his vote. Pelosi protected him in this case.

All his literature that we gave out at the doors and the talking points we used called him "an independent voice for Central Kentucky."

And I'd rather have him any day of the week than Andy Barr (his teabagging opponent).

13. Great news. He's a blue dog who voted against health care reform.
Still, the Republican lost.
