The thread: McCain: Go slow on ending military gay ban

The responses:

Enough with the damned studies.

We have enough studies.

DADT is working fairly well Leave it alone.

Why risk our Armed Forces for a few fruits who’s only limitation is to keep their damned mouth’s shut. No pun intended.

Is McPain bisexual?

He’s almost defending gays.

No striaght guy that I know, wants to bunk NEAR or WITH a “gaY’ guy. That’s common sense.

I have yet to meet an American who has served who wants homos serving with them. It is only the cowards who refuse to serve who want them.

1. This straight guy doesn't want to be near a Freeper.
I'd rather sleep in a bedbug-infested hotel.

Yet somehow his own lack of service isn't cowardice.

4. so you have people who have voluntarily enlisted
in the military during a time of war and they're cowards because they don't care if gays and lesbians are allowed to serve openly?

that makes little sense even for freepers

but at least they're honest about their homophobia in reference to gays serving openly in the military unlike some

6. Yep...and when they find they are blocked as a "hate site"...
...they piss and moan and whine and think it's unfair. Between the rampant, unapologetic homophobia and equal measures of racism that can be found within seconds of visiting their site, it makes you wonder what they consider to be "unacceptable behavior" (other than stepping outside of the far-right talking points).

7. You're right.
That holds true for a lot of things, not just sexual preference. It's basic Psych 101...people who have strong negative reactions to any form of behavior and allow those reactions to manifest themselves in the form of speech or action often are having the reaction to something they see in themselves and do not like. It's a real hornets nest of turmoil, with the seeds often found in their parents, family, school experiences, peers...and on the flip side, as you say, people who accept themselves, who they are, what they are...they have neither the time nor the interest to judge others or find ways to alienate / ostracize them.

I don't get the concern at all. Are they afraid they're going to give in to temptation or something?

16. Yes!!
They seem like the ones that feel that gay is a choice.
They are afraid they will wake up tomorrow and decide
that they will decide to be gay.

10. I Hope I Don't Offend, But Let Me Tell You A Story From My Local Bar...
I'm sitting there with a few of my buddies one night (years ago), and a guy I'd seen once or twice sits down near us.

He's talking all RW and spouting off about the "Good 'Ole Days" when you didn't put up with any F*****s, you'd just show 'em "What's what"!

And as he tried to defend his position on Gay bashing, I interrupted and asked in a nice loud voice, "What makes you think any self-respecting Gay guy would want to fuck YOU???"

Because it did seem that was a concern of his.

And he turned in all pouty shock and amazement, and asked, "Well what's the matter with ME?"

Swear... to... God... (I used to do the door for this place)

And I said to him (while everyone else was laughing hysterically), "Dude... you don't get to have it both ways. You can't be mad that he might want to fuck you, while at the same time being mad that he wouldn't fuck you in a million years."

He left.

Not quite the Dr. Phil moment I realize, but holy crap, man.

:wtf:

22. I totally can identify with this story
After I came out to my roommate in college (who was, i thought, gay-friendly. Turns out, she was only gay-male VERY friendly!) She changed her clothes in the bathroom for quite sometime. I started to laugh about it one day, and told her that there was no worry... I wasn't attracted to her.

She turned around and asked "why not?" I laughed and said that she wasn't my type. To which I received the question "am I too fat, do i not..." I said something along the lines of "No- you're beautiful, and sweet, and a great catch for whomever you marry...but you're just not my type. You're one of my best friends, and I wouldn't go there." She pouted. And then smiled and was,,,i thought.. ok with things

I later heard from a mutual friend that "I was gay and had a crush on my roommate- and my roommate wasn't comfy with that as she was straight- and wished that she had known this earlier so she could have moved to a different room"

Um...

:wtf:

Never fails to amaze me.

Hey, it was HER problem, not mine, in my case.

If she wanted to go walk down the hall every time she wanted to change her clothing, fine by me. I wasn't going to do anything differently!

20. I roomed with a gay guy in college.
He was a decent, nice, considerate roommate who kept things clean and even helped me study. I'd take him 100% of the time over some boorish lunatic who was worried about who their roomie was shagging in their spare time.

23. Fucking freepers
I've lived, bunked, and fought alongside servicemen who I KNEW were gay (either because they came out to me, or because I just suspected they were) and I'm nothing but honored to call them fellow airmen.

I'm willing to bet NONE of those bigots have had the same honor.

so they don't know what they are talking about.

Hubby has served, and some in the crew WERE gay... and nobody gave a flying rats ass.

I don't get it, they say it's working but DADT doesn't PREVENT gay people from serving now.

So aren't they already "sleeping next to a gay person"? They seem confused (maybe bi-curious?! ;))

34. +10. The unconflicted straight men I've known haven't cared.
Because my BFF is a gay man, I have brought my straight male partners to gay bars. None of them have been bothered by the presence of gay men, or even by the idea that some of the men may be attracted to them.
