Obama's self analysis: Delusion or just some shit to say?
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 12:59 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
President Obama said his own "obsessive" focus on implementing the right policies "had led him to ignore a part of the reason voters handed him a mandate in 2008," the New York Times reports. Said Obama: "I neglected some things that matter a lot to people, and rightly so: maintaining a bipartisan tone in Washington. I'm going to redouble my efforts to go back to some of those first principles."

This strikes me as sadly comical... the president's self-analysis is completely backward. If there is one thing that characterized the first two years of Obama governance it was a continual disdain for "implementing the right policies." The standard opening gambit on almost every issue was, "I think this is the right policy... so it's obviously off the table. Let's face it, I will sign anything."

Let's see if we can clean this up...
"President Obama said his own "obsessive" focus on maintaining a bipartisan tone in Washington "had led him to ignore a part of the reason voters handed him a mandate in 2008," the New York Times reports. Said Obama: "I neglected some things that matter a lot to people. I'm going to redouble my efforts to implement the right policies."
Ahhhhh.... much more reality-based.

Seriously... does the President believe this stuff (which would mean he is deluded) or is he just really this cynical?

2. The only president who is good at speaking extemporaneously was Clinton
When other presidents did so, the results were usually not good:

Bush the Younger: A bumbling fool who mangled the English language

Bush the Elder: Detached and aloof

Reagan: Visibly failing memory

Right now Obama seems to resemble Bush 41 in the way he speaks extemporaneously.

3. How I wish he'd said the purple-highlighted quote! I really don't know...
...whether he is completely unable to assess the situation or he's that cynical - that's the big mystery imo!

5. It's seriously nauseating to hear him say "I failed to sell out my own people enough"
but for the moment, I am considering this as "just saying some shit".

Although I believe the odds are very high that he is about to come out of the closet as a Reagan Republican, these remarks, which you correctly analyzed as backwards nonsense, could just be a head fake.
