Walberg wants to dramatically cut social safety net programs, and directs much of his scorn on Social Security. He’s advocated for privatizing the program, and agreed with a supporter at a Tea Party event who said Social Security is unconstitutional and “a Ponzi scheme.” In 2006, he called Social Security “socialism at its finest,” adding, “That’s defined as socialism when the government is required to take care of us all.”

Walberg’s Religious Right credentials are also stellar. He opposes abortion rights, including in cases of rape or incest. As a member of the House, he cosponsored two bills that, according to NARAL, “would end all legal abortion, most common forms of birth control, stem cell research, and in vitro fertilization". He voted against a bill that would have provided for stem cell research.

In 2008, Walberg was the only member of the House education committee to vote “no” on extending funding for the Head Start program. He objected to a provision in the bill that prohibited Head Start preschools from discriminating based on religion, warning that a Christian parochial school might have to hire a Muslim or “a Wiccan from a coven in Ann Arbor.”

n the House, Walberg voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and against expanding hate crimes legislation to include gender identity and sexual orientation, and against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He also opposed equal pay legislation and the 2008 Paycheck Fairness Act.

Most religions want to tell you how to live, and the anti-socialists are religionists who want to tell you how to live.

This is one crazy world, eh?

And then you have these idiots using government as a sledge hammer to pound socialistic religion down on everyone's head.

They actually are the worst kind of socialists. People like this Wallberg are the reason socialism has such a bad name. They actually want government to watch everything you do, but they turn around and say government needs to stop caring about people.

I live near their district and I got the ads. The RNC ran many for this nut as well as all the rove type groups.
His opponent (who had just beaten him 2 years before) had pretty good ads. They used Wallberg's own voice saying stupid things about trade and social security etc.

But what is the truth compared to lies? There were so many ads against the Dem! The last days revealed something. This freshman Dem and Nancy Pelosi had secret meetings in backrooms and reached an agreement to take billions from seniors Medicare and spend it on health care for illegal immigrants! Who knew?
The Pelosi ads were so dumb I figured they would have no impact but comments I read after articles in local papers were all about how he just served Pelosi. The way they were phrased was crude though, hard to believe they were voters.

On the birth certificate issue they left out a strange part. He said the birth certificate should be shown to Rush Limbaugh, Alan Colmes, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and maybe one justice of the US Supreme court.
He was taped saying all this.

Such a horrid little man.
But MI went crazy. We now have an all republican state government. Besides the governor the Senate got an increased republican majority, Dems lost the house and the Supreme Court even went from a Dem majority to republican.

Trying to find a bright side the governor beat out two right wing nuts in the primary and didn't do negative ads. While republican governors in nearby states are nixing the high speed rail projects through stimulus bill this guy has exdpressed support for high speed rail and has said things about transportation being key to revitalizing inner cities.
So it could be worse but I bet it will be mighty bad.

This turn to republicans is just creepy. I get that people feel let down by how things are... but turning to republicans?
It's like a kid running away from his mom because she doesn't cook the food he wants and going to his dad who not only doesn't make meals at all but also beats him.
