What would have happened if Democrats had rejected any reliance upon special interest money

years ago. Yeah, the repubs would've taken control (and they did anyway from 2000 - 2006). But the Democratic party could then have adopted the one liner "We reject this form of corruption as bad for the country." I think it would have broken the stranglehold the g.o.p. has over the whole process. When money is the key factor, they have decided advantage.
I heard and rejected the argument years ago, that we have to play the money game to compete or the repulicans will take complete control (again, as they did anyway from 2000-2006).
