'Sarah Palin's Alaska' draws big ratings - Almost 5 Million
Almost 5 million viewers tuned in to the Sunday night premiere of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”

TLC announced that the début episode of the new show drew 4.96 million total viewers, making it the No. 1 program launch in TLC history among households, besting the “What Not to Wear” series launch in 2003. The new show features a glimpse into Palin’s life in her home state and is scheduled to initially run for eight weeks.

While "Palin's" ratings were big, last year's break-up announcement on TLC's “Jon and Kate Plus Eight” continues to reign as one of the network’s biggest draws to date, with more than 10 million viewers.

1. The pilot is always the most watched one..
It will taper off to about 300,000 viewers before Discovery realizes it made a very big mistake and cancel the rest of the series and leaving the other episodes unaired and sent directly to the incinerator.

14. Really?
Ever hear of The Big Bang Theory. Take a look at those numbers and then tell me that the pilot is the most watched espisode of a series.

18. LOL. Your one show versus the general trends across the industry.
Yes, sometimes this happens, but only with shows that are under advertised.

The ones with huge advertising exposure (or even moderate) have the above phenomenon for the first season.

2. Headline: Palin's ratings only half of top rated programs....
The fact that she can't top Kate plus Eight shows what a loser she is.

6. YUP. I know I heard today that one of the competing shows has 21million viewers.
Five million is just big number for the crappy network she's on.

3. I read a review of it.
I suspect only the die hard Palinistas will be back for Episode 2.

It's disturbing also to learn that 10 million people watch Jon and Kate Plus Eight. :eyes:

11. Reality TV about ordinary people (J&K) is usually a train wreck waiting to happen
Sarah Palin's Alaska (aka Sarah Palin Inc.) is merely the latest in political advertising.

13. I Didn't Watch The Program But Saw A Clip On The Ed Show.......
the one where Palin was in a boat watching bears in the water. I couldn't help but think that there was another boat nearby with sharpshooters with high powered hunting rifles just in case the bear(s) turned on Palin.

19. Didn't this used to be called "The Learning Channel?"
I seem to recall sort of an educational format, not much sensationalism. Is this the same one?

Wikipedia article about the TLC channel

Sucks how the capitalistic model makes cable channels be forced to pander to the idiot sheeple. The anti-intellectualism in America is just so sickening.

Speaking of ex-educational cable: PZ Myers is wagging his finger at A&E's Psychic Kids.
