1. Yes, but that is one of about three legitimate constitutional requirements.
Said the libertarian. We would have plenty of money for defense, if we just did away with all entitlements, like unemployment insurance.

That huge disparity in military funding is directly responsible for our WAY OF AMERICAN LIFE.

Wait a minute. You are saying I should pay for Bush's wars, not place them on the credit card? If I am going to spout rugged individualist, I should pay for wars as we go? That would cost us politically though. Go Ron Paul.

Sarcasm chasm.

2. K&R
"We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist." ~ President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961 Farewell Address

3. It's because Repubs see infrastructure
as a cost and the rest of the world sees it as an investment. And vice versa for military spending.

4. More from Ike
“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.”

Address to the American Society of Newspaper Editors, April 16, 1953

10. It's because of those greedy old people
sucking at the Social Security and Medicare tit, and they all voted for Republicans in the recent election anyway, and they should all be ashamed, and they deserve what they get.

I read about it on DU.

11. Try a Trillion.
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 11:07 PM by Octafish
$700 Billion plus the Iraq-Af-Pak whatevertheclusterfuck.

Even more of a waste: Soon the interest on the national debt will be about a trillion a year, as well.

Doesn't leave much for anything else.

Edit: Except a Kick and Recommend.

13. It's not JUST the military.
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 01:38 PM by KillCapitalism
Anything else that's left over just goes to the wealthy.

The wealthy are getting greedier and will begin robbing from the military, wait and see.

15. It's actually even more than that
We actually spend over $1 trillion a year on war when you take into consideration the defense budget, Iraq, Afghanistan and supplemental military spending.
