McKeon, in a Monday speech at the Foreign Policy Institute conference in Washington, D.C., said he is “extremely concerned” about how cuts in wasteful defense programs made by Defense Secretary Robert Gates could be used against the military. Gates has the services looking for $100 billion in savings over the next five years that would be poured back into other defense programs. McKeon said he is worried that the Obama administration and “some in Congress” would instead use the money for non-defense matters.
