unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: IMO, the entire F-35 program is nothing more than a consolation prize to Lockeed Martin. Be sure to read the comments at the end of the 'Defense' Tech article.

Could the F-35B Really Be Cut?

The last few weeks have seen some serious punches thrown at the would-be-wonder jet. First, the British announced that they were cutting their nearly 150-plane F-35B buy in favor of an unknown number of F-35C carrier variant JSFs. Next came reports that the Pentagon is bracing for the possibilty that the program will suffer more delays and cost growth. Then, last week, a presidentially-mandated panel recommended that the government completely scrap the B-model JSF as well has half the U.S. Air Force’s and Navy’s purchases of F-35As and Cs, respectively, through 2015.

2. This is the kind of shit that needs to go from our Federal budget.
Unless we're having an arms race with the guys who use boxcutters to hijack planes...

3. It is one hell of an airplane, but who will our enemy be? Why do we need it
when our "obsolescent" current aircraft are still ahead of those of the rest of the world?
Are we planning a war with Europe or India...or Israel?
