Is Joe Lieberman a Retired Man Walking?
Independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman is up for reelection in two years but doesn't seem to have any paths to victory. If he ran as a Democrat, he would almost certainly lose in the primary, since most Democratic voters hate him. There's little chance he could win again as an Independent, as he did in 2006, when the GOP helpfully nominated Alan Schlesinger, a very weak candidate who pulled in only 10 percent of the vote. And it's unlikely he'd make it through a GOP primary either, as his voting record would easily make him the most liberal Republican in the Senate, something Republican-primary voters typically frown on these days. He may just have to settle for a well-paying gig at a lobbying firm or a corporate board, the poor bastard.

7. Thank you
Wish I had joined during the 2008 presidential campaign. I truly needed a site such as this.

4. There's a few things that he could do to make Democrats happier
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 10:43 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
but, unfortunately, I think it's too late for him.

Does anybody think that he's still likely to switch parties between now and then? My bet is that he maintains his "Independent" status.

10. We CT Dems THREW HIM OUT of the party in 06. He ain't coming back.
Nobody sees him or hears about him in CT nowadays and that's been so for a while.

I'd like to see him retire. I just want the man gone. He has no party apparatus to leave behind. If we run a good, solid candidate (I personally would like to see Diane Farrell who made a good run at challenging Chris Shays in 06 but was before her time) we could beat whatever scumbag the pukes put up -- Linda McMahon is interested but people got so sick of her and her ads in 2010 that she'll have real baggage. It ought to be interesting...

12. He can join "the asshats from hell" lobbying company.
He's just as much hated by his colleagues as by the public.

5. I bet he retires, but I'd love to see him humiliated by a loss.
He will probably join some lobbying group immediately after he's gone.

11. I said that four years ago and I stand by it today
He's done and he knew he was done at the end of this last election. Frankly, I think he was as surprised as I was that he won. He won't run again. Then again, if he does, he will lose. I will make that my personal mission.
