Record temperatures in Russia
Russia is experiencing an unusually warm November, with four temperature records set in Moscow this month.

The capital reached a temperature of 12.3C on Monday, breaking the previous record of 11.7C set in 1923.

Meteorologists say temperatures have hovered around 10C above normal, due to warm air moving north from southern parts of Europe. The average temperature for this time of year is just 1.1C.

The high temperatures have caused problems for wildlife according to ecologists. Hedgehogs and badgers have been unable to go into hibernation, while some species of red squirrel have not changed into their white winter coats.

7. Years ago I was in Vancouver BC just after they'd implemented the change. It was
New Year's and there was some snow. I asked a woman - how do you know what the REAL temperature is? She said "All I know is 0 degrees Celsius is freezing, so 1 degree is fucking cold! :7

Here's what I just found: 1 degree Celsius = 33.8 degrees Fahrenheit

20. Here too
I'm in Alberta and today is the first really cold and snowy day. The last few weeks we've been between 8-15 degrees C. Our normal for this time of year is -1C.

6. I can relate,
Out here in Missouri we've had a very dry, warm fall. Yeah, we've gotten down to freezing a couple of times, but we were also putting highs up into the mid seventies last week. In November.

The weather is crazy, and sadly it looks like I'm going to be adversely effected. My apple trees need a certain number of cold hours, below freezing, in order for them to produce the next year. Doesn't look like that's going to happen.

11. In Seattle we've been ping-ponging all over the place, some record highs recently
and coming up on a cold spell with the highs in the high 30's.

And quite a wind storm last night - gusts up to 50. Thankfully it moved through quickly and went on to pummel some other poor people to the East.

14. Same in Los Angeles...
In fact, with my SO's family being in Bellevue, WA, and us in LA, we've been watching the West Coast weather and how the two areas relate for about 7 years now. There's a marvelous dance between high and low pressure zones on the coast. When a high moves in down here, Seattle keeps the low and the rains stick around. We've seen some momentary swaps in this dance, with Seattle taking the lead and sending all the rain our way.

21. My best friend lives in LA and we speak almost every day, and we always
discuss the weather. :7 He misses Seattle rain and doom and gloom, and gets excited when it rains in LA, but he loves the 'beautiful' days there, too! :hi:

22. HowardX is all about the LA sunshine now...
He used to tease me about not wanting to go out and about in the rain, saying, "If we did that in Seattle, we'd never go outside!" He used to complain about the lack of rain down here... boy have things changed! He's all Angeleno now! Shorts all the time, flip flops (I think I bought him his first pair) and you should hear him complain about the cold!

It's like people with straight hair wanting curly, and vice versa:)

19. I don't remember where I saw this...
But a researcher in areas of the former Soviet Union was looking into the trapped Methane in the frozen soils and ponds. She did this cool little thing where she dug a small hole through some ice and then lit it with her lighter. While that was cool to see, the point was that warmer temperatures mean that the ice may not stay frozen, or as frozen, and thus allows the gasses to be released into the atmosphere. Of course we all know what happens when you pump more methane into the atmosphere - more warming - more melted soils - more gas - higher temperatures ...

We're screwed.
