1. I vote NO, but urge everyone to demand the full Monty.
One way to resist this intrusion is for the maximum possible number of passengers to protest by refusing the machine and demanding the pat down. Then, when they rub your genitals, tell them "Thanks, I have to pay extra for that in Vegas!"

I'm only kidding about the last part. The first part is the way to go. They can feel my junk all they want to, because I want them to have to do it instead of using the machine. If enough passengers insist on the full pat down, TSA will have to modify its approach. It is clear their intent is to intimidate passengers into complying.

9. What I am waiting for is when a TSA bubba assaults a passenger who made a randy comment
On another site it was pointed out that many screeners are not all that "high brow" and could take seriously the comments made to them than infer that they are gay etc. That could result in them striking the person they are screening. Not sure how real a risk that would be. How hard to you have to poke some guy's machismo before he reacts violently? Clearly some individuals are more sensitive about such things than others. Racial comments could also be thrown in the mix. The TSA employee can not react to them and keep their jobs. However, for some the provocation may be too much.

12. "Interesting job choice." - one size fits all.
That isn't openly insulting, but suggests they chose the job because they like to handle the privates of strangers.

18. Oh, there will be TSA agents who lose their shit when ridiculed.
On the pecking order of law enforcers, they're somewhere close to the person who checks to make sure you're tall enough for this ride at Disneyland.

14. What about the "junk" of your 13-year-old daughter or son?
Putting your lack of concern for your own civil rights aside, would you really let a government agent fondle the genitals of your 13-year-old child?

I have concern for civil rights, as I clearly said.

Stop making things up.

17. Sorry
I must have misread this statement "they can feel my junk all they want to, because I want them to have to do it instead of using the machine".

Was it sarcastic?

19. The choice is submission or not to the machine and the intimidation.
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 04:38 PM by TexasObserver
I choose not to submit to the machine and that means submitting to the handling. I don't do so because I like it, or because I don't think highly of civil rights. I do so because I'd rather put up with the groping than let them intimidate me into compliance.

You draw inferences not there, which is why your lack of logic makes you reach unjustified conclusions.

22. Clarification
I'm not sure if your objection was to my inference that you had no respect for your own civil rights or that your conformity has implications for the rest of us. You sounded pretty flippant about not caring whether the government fondles you or not, but I'm curious as to whether or not you are equally unconcerned with children being subjected to the same treatment.

Would you let your child conform to either the strip search or genital fondling? Somebody else's child? In a free country, should children be subjected to such behavior from their own government?

6. Yep. I suggest alternative transportation.
Unless you are going overseas, take the train. It takes a while, but it is very relaxing, you enjoy the trip, you have time to meet and get acquainted with your fellow travelers. Just because you can cross the continent in a few hours doesn't mean you HAVE to.

If it is business, and you can't take three days, videoconference. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than flying, and your boss will be appreciative.

Slow down, enjoy the trip. You'll be happier.

And nobody will touch your junk unless you want them to.

16. What about renting a truck, going to a mall, seeing a movie...
walking down a street. What makes flying so special that it demands a strip search and fondling of genitals?

Your argument is specious and hollow. Freedom of movement is an inherent, inalienable right. Consent to sexual assault cannot be required as a precondition for travel. It doesn't really matter what the government, its institutions or its agents say.

37. Are there preset rules
that you agree to on any of those things? Why yes there are and you must follow them in order to take advantage of the priviledge.
A rented truck will be searched when you try to enter an area which requires a search of vehicles. Its pretty neat, they have these signs that clearly state 'Subject to search' BEFORE you have to be searched.

Funny you don't mention going to school. Do you think it is ok to search backpacks and have kids walk thru metal detectors in order to provide a more safe learning environment?

Freedom of movement is NOT the issue. Following the rules of the mode YOU choose is.

24. No, I don't give consent.
If and when I next buy an ticket to fly I will not consent to any search without probable cause. My wanting to fly isn't probable cause. If it ends up in court, so be it. I won't be seeking small dollars in compensation.

Next thing that happens is when it's required for train and bus tickets.

But really, maybe if we stopped bombing everyone else into oblivion, we wouldn't have to worry so much about our own planes being bombed. I'll just bet there's some correlation.

29. Here is what I don't get
You can get arrested for not allowing a TSA agent to put his hands in your pants. But, if you suggest the very same thing to the flight attendant, they'll kick you off the plane.

Go figure.
