Senate Republicans Vote Unanimously AGAINST Bill To HELP Guarantee FAIR PAY FOR WOMEN

:grr:

" Today, Senate Republicans voted unanimously against legislation to close the pay gap between women and men. The Senate voted 58-41 against allowing debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help end discriminatory pay practices against women. It had already passed the House.

More than 45 years after passage of the Equal Pay Act, the pay gap shockingly persists with women still earning on average 77 cents to every man’s dollar. According to the National Women’s Law Center, “This persistent pay gap translates to more than $10,000 in lost wages per year for the average female worker.” The gap is even worse for women of color: African-American women earn 61 cents and Latinas earn 52 cents for every dollar a white non-Hispanic man earns.

This afternoon on MSNBC, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said it was “outrageous” and “egregious” that “these senators voted against fair pay.” Watch it:

2. Make the Republicans filibuster and if they do use Senate rules to break it. End of story.
Edited on Wed Nov-17-10 02:24 PM by Better Believe It

Don't withdraw the bill, keep it on the Senate floor and stop the "two track" Senate leader rule which permits other legislation to be discussed on the Senate floor if Republicans engage in a fake "procedural" filibuster.

Do that or will we hear more whining and lame excuses for capitulation to Republican obstructionists?

5. Hardly. They are far more likely to whimper about Republican obstructionism rather than fight them

4. I have lots to say on this
But suffice to say - I'm not surprised.

In the Teapublican mind - some people are more equal than others. We all have to ACCEPT that this is who they are.

They've shown us time and again who they are . . . it's time to start believing it, and NOT ever backing down from that belief. E-V-E-R.

8.  Lets see if anyone cares about this, or has capitulation already begun?
Will this also be called a pony, a "special interest" and of no import? This is not only a Civil Rights issue but an economic issue. Women are also consumers and the more money they have , the more will be in the economy. We should be roaring about this!

9. Al I know is
President Obama got his photo op with Lily Ledbetter. They said (Reid, Pelosi, Obama) that Fair Pay was a non-negotiable . . . that they were FINALLY going to get it done.

Truth be told - I could care less about ERA. It's never going to happen anyways.

But with Fair Pay - WE WRITE OUR OWN DESTINY! And let's not forget . . . in the 'new economy' - women are the 'bread winners'.

12. Let's hope all those incoming freshmen women in congress notice.
Maybe they'll have a little nagging doubt about the values of their party.
