Bill Nye appears fine after collapsing during USC talk

Popular TV personality Bill Nye left USC under his own power after he collapsed onstage Tuesday night in front of hundreds of audience members during a presentation at USC, campus officials said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and USC's public safety office responded to the scene about 8:40 p.m. and examined Nye. They concluded that he did not need to be taken to the hospital and he left on his own, said Capt. David Carlisle of USC Department of Public Safety. Though attempts to contact Nye were unsuccessful, he posted a Twitter message on Wednesday morning that he was participating in a “Global Online Town Hall with Al Gore talking about math and science education in our country.”

1. Aw! I used to love watching him as a kid. Glad he's OK.
I forget who it was but some media figure collapsed about a year ago and was never taken to the hospital.

Hubby says it may be from locking your knees when standing for prolonged periods. It causes blood to pool in legs and people pass out from lack of blood flow/oxygen to the head. He says they teach that in basic training because of all the standing in formation they do.

You'd hope "The Science Guy" would know that.

3. That's exactly what I thought too.
Hubby's right. I've seen perfectly healthy men pass out in formations - they used to keep medics in the rear to drag them away.

2. The weird thing I found about this story is that nobody apparently went to help him,
Instead they all got busy tweeting and blogging about the incident instead. A sad commentary on our society.
