U.S. Senator: Republicans will block tax compromise
Wed Nov 17, 2010 2:16pm EST

WASHINGTON, Nov 17 (Reuters) - A top Republican in the U.S. Senate said on Wednesday that his party would block any Democratic deal on extending Bush-era tax cuts if rates for the middle class and wealthy are not extended together.

"Are you kidding, of course we would," said Senator Orrin Hatch, who sits on the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee and is expected to be the panel's top Republican in January ...

10. I agree
After all, this won't have any impact on the poor person that employs me.

2. Good. Let ALL the Bush tax cuts expire.
Publicize widely WHY all tax cuts are expiring.

Next, introduce brand new, Obama tax cuts for the middle class and working poor ONLY, and make sure every attempt by reTHUGs to block them is shouted from every rooftop.

Expose their hypocrisy loudly, 24/7. Illustrate repeatedly how they are waging class warfare against ordinary people on behalf of the ultra-rich and their corporate masters.

This is a golden opportunity and Democrats had better use it to the max. I'll gladly pay the extra in taxes if it brings down the GOP.

6. I know this has probably been asked and answered a zillion times, but why can't
we just let them expire? And then maybe introduce a stand-alone middle class permanent break right away?

Either way, I'd be willing to give up my 'break' -- the revenue we're losing is astronomical.

8. Do both.
But after January the tax bills coming from the House will be Republican bills.

9. No reason we can't introduce a bill to extend the middle class cuts and let the piggies' cuts expire
Interesting how the water remains murky on that.
