Senate Republicans Vote Unanimously Against Bill To Help Guarantee Fair Pay For Women

Today, Senate Republicans voted unanimously against legislation to close the pay gap between women and men. The Senate voted 58-41 against allowing debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help end discriminatory pay practices against women. It had already passed the House.

More than 45 years after passage of the Equal Pay Act, the pay gap shockingly persists with women still earning on average 77 cents to every man’s dollar. According to the National Women’s Law Center, “This persistent pay gap translates to more than $10,000 in lost wages per year for the average female worker.” The gap is even worse for women of color: African-American women earn 61 cents and Latinas earn 52 cents for every dollar a white non-Hispanic man earns.

...the Senate Democrats had some stones they'd set up a bunch of votes that would either embarass or force riffs within the GOTB. With McChinless' sole mission to "destroy" this President I don't expect anything of substance to move through the Senate (or the House for that matter). So why not use the agenda to paint the rushpublicans as the selfish and regressive party that they are.

11. The habitual misogyny continues. Republicans are afraid

of strong, intelligent women with equal buying power. Or afraid of women being equal in any legal way.
It affronts their faux-macho male-powered world.
They can't even bring themselves to talk about it, apparently. And we all know now that 41 is more powerful than 58.

And yes, it offends me that any Republican woman could stand for this. Or any woman for that matter.

............along with the tagline, "Think women deserve equal pay for doing the same job? Senate Republicans don't."

I got a response from my Bible-bashing cousin (who, by the way, is female) saying this: "I see this more as a vote to keep government the hell out of America's business."

So I guess right-wingers see discrimination as being A-OK, or at least better than "government interference." Even when THEY ARE the members of the oppressed class. Low prices are more important than civil rights anyway. Has every right-winger in the country developed a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome? Since when do the people being victimized take up the cause of their victimizers? I really am beginning to think that Americans are simply too dumb to govern themselves anymore.
