If I recall, it was Rove & Cheney's way or the highway. Nobody put up a fight. Not even the Democrats in Congress.

So why is everyone getting upset because the Democrats aren't bending-over more than they already have?

1. The short answer
to your first question is "no".

The answer to your second question is longer: Because this country's media is OWNED by corporate intersts...They frame the country as "republican by default".

7. "permanent republican majority" ... "mandate"
"political capital" ...

The framing when the Rs were in charge, with a MUCH smaller presidential win and smaller margins in the house and senate was winner take all ...

The Disaster in Chief won a small margin for relection, blatherd about having "political capital, and I'm going to spend it ..." and the "liberal media" swooned ...

The framing when the Ds were in power - compromise and tact to the center ...

Rs went into retarded dimensia over HCR, and it was treated as being reflective of an "angry" country ...

ANY opposition to the Rs was termed aiding the enemy in a time of war ...

BO saw the most organized terrorist attack on this country thwarted before it got started, not a friggen pee from the "liberal media."

11. Father knows best.
We are still a patriarchal society. Among Republican families, foremost, obedience is demanded.

8. Not many media people in that list.
Maybe we should begin to challenge those in the media who claim they represent the desire of the American people with all this quest for compromise?

9. one trouble is that 20% of Democrats voted for Republican crap back then
So Republicans got to say that their crap was bi-partisan.

But also, No Child Left Behind was written by Ted Kennedy.
