Wishadoo! makes Beck's blackboard -- Can you please help me?
I've mentioned this here and there, but I have a very specific request today I'm hoping DUers can help with. Since there are posts regarding other progressive organizations and businesses Beck has dissed (CREDO Mobile, for example), I thought it would be okay to post this.

BACKGROUND: Wishadoo! was an endorsing sponsor for the One Nation Working Together rally. On his show the Wednesday before the rally, he selected about two dozen of the hundreds of endorsing partners to "highlight" with magnets on his blackboard (I've requested that magnet...wonder if I'll get it? ;)).

Wishadoo! was one of them.

I wondered why I was suddenly getting nasty emails about Wishadoo's "evil socialist agenda," telling me they're going to "be keeping an eye on me," then I got a Google alert which led me to the transcript of his show that day.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,601643,00.html

(You can search using keyword "wishadoo" if you're so inclined. The gist is that because Wishadoo! is devoted to "The Common Good" and wanting to pursue a new way of doing business and doing EVERYTHING that is for "mutual benefit" he found those phrases suspect and alluded to Wishadoo! being part of the evil liberal/socialist/fascist/communist/nazi conspiracy. ;)

Check out his blackboard; Wishadoo is on the right-hand side, second column from the right, third magnet from the top. :bounce: It's this image:

The video link I had was pulled but you probably couldn't bear that anyway.

I'm still trying to get programming help to fix a few glitches and add several key features to the site before doing the full launch of Wishadoo! and promote a campaign to respond to Mr. Beck and his haters.

For now, now would you please take a moment to help a fellow DUer?

1. Please join Wishadoo! if you haven't already. http://wishadoo.com/signup

2. If you're on Facebook, please join the Fan Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wishadoo/151375992579

That's it for now, but it would help me tremendously. Thank you very, VERY much!!!

:hi:

27. It got even more hilarious than that...
On his next show, Beck noted that everybody had been making fun of him for his misspelling, and he proceeded to "correct" OLIGARH--by adding a 'Y'! I think it wasn't until after a break (during which somebody must have clued him in) that Beck finally added the missing 'C.'

18. In Beck's world, The Evil is EVERYWHERE! Oh, here's another story...

;)

I have to share something here that goes along with this.

My daughter's high school play is "A Midsummer Night's Dream." A student did t-shirts as part of the costumes using simple elements from the more elaborate graphic I created for the poster and show t-shirts: a crescent moon and stars; actually one star.

I got an email last night from someone who assumed I did the t-shirts, making a cryptic comment about the "logo." It took me a while to figure out what the heck he was talking about, but then I realized. He's a Beck/Limbaugh person -- and knows about Beck slamming Wishadoo on his show -- so of course what he saw was the Islamic flag and assumed I was subtly poisoning the play. lolol.

And this is someone who I consider intelligent, isn't racist...but after listening to Limbaugh and now Beck, he has indeed become a bigot, with evil conspiracies around every corner. :(

My daughter cracked up when I told her, and said she's going to spread the word that their show t-shirts are part of the evil liberal agenda. ;)

19. Say. Didn't McCarthy try to scare us by claiming that there were secret communists EVERYWHERE?
It seems familiar, somehow.

Your next evil T-Shirt can be the quote from Terry Gilliam's "Brazil":

"Don't suspect your neighbor, turn him in!"

43. Are you wondering, what IS Wishadoo?
:hi:

Here is a bit of what Wishadoo! is all about. It's not about fundraising; that's merely how it's been implemented thus far at DU. It is about reaching out in multiple ways -- between individuals, with local businesses, schools, organizations -- reaching out in ways we have yet to imagine...

This is the part Beck disliked: Wishadoo! is a social visionary enterprise committed to and infused with the core values of integrity, respect, and compassion. The intent is to be self-sustaining and to create jobs and income opportunities for others through a cooperative model. Everything has mutual benefit, supporting and sustaining The Common Good. We are shifting the traditional model of “profit-only corporation” to “mutual-benefit cooperation” with the social vision as the guiding force.

Wishadoo! is The Community of Tomorrow built on your dreams and visions of today.

Wishadoo! is for everyone. It is the core humanity we all share that brings us together at Wishadoo! This space is about reaching out to our neighbors — near or far — with respect, dignity, and personal responsibility, regardless of spiritual or religious beliefs, political ideologies, personal interests, etc.

It’s about gathering to brainstorm — and then implement — new ways of doing…everything.

WHY WISHADOO?

The need for ONE space — one gathering place, one gateway, one clearinghouse for compassion — has become clear. The time for Wishadoo! is now. So many are struggling and don’t know where to turn and are often too embarrassed to ask. It’s time for people to join together to help one another in countless ways….ways we have yet to imagine, beyond the existing avenues.

It is time for HEARTS to be WIDE OPEN.

THE VISION:

Wishadoo! is where people discover they are part of something bigger than themselves as we all work together to create a New Way.

Wishadoo! Communities are developed one person at a time, growing to include families, schools, organizations, and businesses, all working together to improve daily life for everyone in their own “backyard.” As each backyard grows and strengthens, the Wishadoo! Effect expands and radiates beyond geographic boundaries — there are no limits — creating a new way, a new world…thinking, wishing, doing, and creating outside the box.

Wishadoo! is a social visionary enterprise committed to and infused with the core values of integrity, respect, and compassion.

Wishadoo! and strategic partner THE PIECE PROCESS offer a bridge to create this new way. We invite you to take a step toward active compassion…step into a new world…and welcome to Wishadoo!

47. Oh, no......I was PISSED at first!!!

I was fuming, ESPECIALLY with all the hate mail from his viewers; just like you hear about with these other companies and organizations he's mentioned on his show. The vitriol was disgusting.

But then it finally dawned on me: what a GREAT opportunity. Any PR is good PR, right?

(I just was -- and am -- frustrated that the site isn't perfect yet so I could do a full-court press. ;))

I also wanted to be sure not to respond with an attack. So, instead, I realized that I can respond (and invite others to do the same) through what I call the "I Choose...Campaign."

I'll be sharing more about this when I get it all situated, and inviting people to participate, sign a petition, etc., but the gist of the I Choose Campaign is that we choose to create a COMPLETELY different world than Beck and his ilk.

We choose to create a world where The Common Good isn't seen as profanity; where empathy and compassion are seen as strengths, not a weaknesses; where social justice is accepted as a goal to strive toward, not a premise to slander and run away from.

Thanks!

50. and...(this is probably TMI, but what the heck...)

My family members are Beck/Limbaugh/Faux fans.

They choose Beck's worldview, in spite of all this.

It's a line in the sand for me. It has become very, very personal, and I'm okay with that decision.

I'm trying to get that magnet he used on his show that day to be a parting gift to one of the family members who will treasure it like it's the friggin Holy Grail or something.

54. I used to think that kids were called "Zen teachers" because they themselves were so Zen
Which made no sense to me, because my kids certainly spent a lot of time crying and fussing and complaining. Then I realized that kids are called Zen teachers not because they are so spiritual and wise themselves--they're little ids on legs--but because they provide us with so many opportunities to practice Zen. Kind of like your family members. It must be so hard. It would make me so deeply sad if people I really cared about thought the way Fox viewers do. But I guess that's the way they are and dealing with it is just one more exercise in acceptance.

I absolutely love your "I Choose" attitude. It's true--we really can choose our attitudes to a very great degree. But sometimes it's like "choosing" to oppose gravity... it just doesn't feel natural or right. And it's so frustrating that Fox viewers apparently choose to be ignorant and to enjoy getting their panties in a wad about completely factitious things, because their poor choices affect so many other people. (Oh, gosh, there I go again! It is so hard not to get angry with these people!)

Anyway... I admire you so much.

55. It is very hard not to be angry....

and, truly, I get angry and frustrated frequently. I've just gotten into the habit of reminding myself to choose (lol) not remain there and instead do what I can to move in a more positive direction.

What a wonderful way to look at it, through the example of kids and Zen.

You're so right. Beck (and all those who resonate with what he says) provided me with the stark contrast of the world I DO NOT choose to experience every day, and instead I try to stay focus on what I do choose. Experiencing what we don't want helps us gain more clarity about what we DO want.

I'm not sure I'm worthy of your admiration, but I humbly accept it.

Thanks again.
