11 Democrats voted against passage of Emergency Unemployment Compensation Continuation
Vote results

BILL TITLE: Emergency Unemployment Compensation Continuation Act H R 6419
QUESTION: On Motion to Suspend the Rules and Pass, as Amended

18-Nov-2010 2:01 PM

Of the eleven Democrats who voted against extending emergency unemployment benefits:

All of them are Blue Dogs.

Seven of them were defeated in the election. Another one of them is retiring. They had nothing to lose. So they voted against helping the people.

They are:

1. Allen Boyd (FL 2nd)
2. Bobby Bright (Alabama 2nd)
3. Lincoln Davis (TN 5th)
4. Baron Hill (Indiana 9th)
5. Walt Minnick (Idaho 1st)
6. Glen Nye (VA 2nd)
7. Gene Taylor (Mississippi 4th)
8. Marion Berry (Arkansas 1st) Retiring

Good riddance.

The remaining three of them were re-elected.

They are:

1. Jim Cooper (TN 5th)
2. Collin Peterson (Minnesota 7th)
3. Heath Shuler (NC 11th)

These should also join the ranks of the ousted in 2012.

They cannot hide from their voting record. We are paying attention.

13. Allen Boyd is the one who said that Nancy Pelosi is the reason we lost
I think former Representative Boyd needs to look deep inside himself and discern the REAL reason.

2. What is really offensive is that Boyd is FOR tax cuts for the ultra wealthy
I called his office and complained about that contrast - willing to keep the deficit to give a break to the people who don't need it, but not willing to help those who have no chance of making ends meet. Of course, his Washington office was so clueless they did not know the vote had been taken on the unemployment extension until I called and told them.

3. 28 blue dogs lost their seats, almost half of the Dem loss of 60.
You'd think they'd get the message.

But I believe these are really closeted Republicans. They sure as hell vote that way.

Progressives, we've got work to do.

I'd rather Dems be in the minority if we can purge the Blue Dogs. What the hell, they just drag us down anyway.

4. That S.O.B. BlueDog Shuler wanted to challenge Nancy Pelosi for Minority Leader?!?
I'm glad his behind was handed to him. We don't need no stinkin', inconsiderate, hate-the-vulnerable RepubliDem as leader of the Democrats.

God! I'm so happy Madam Speaker will continue to lead in the 112th Congress. We need to get rid of RepubliDems. They've never, ever been any help to the Democratic Party. They gave the Corporate Media all the fodder they needed to shoot down the Democratic Party as a "weak" Party because they constantly made gave true Democrats in the caucus a friggin' headache!

When will the American people finally open their g*ddamn eyes and vote for Progressives who want to help them??

I'm sorry. I just needed to air my frustration, thinking about those people who rely on what little bit they get to get through Christmas.

7. Heath is right in the mainstream of the Party, isn't he?
Honestly, I wish there was a way we could protect our brand by drumming these jokers out. If the Republicans can demand 100% Party line voting, we damn well should too.

12. Exactly. The problem is messaging, and not having the vehicle to do it
The Rethugs have all of corporate media at their fingertips. They can pontificate without being asked the hard questions, creating a false narrative that what they say is 100% true and correct because they're never challenged by "reporters".

These "reporters" are just as guilty of spreading misinformation, depriving the people in those red parts of the red states of the truth, and keeping them ignorant so they'll continue to vote against their best interests. They're guilty because they only ask the hard questions of Democrats and Progressives.

Corporate Media has completely taken over our Fourth Estate, and turned reporting into, as Rachel Maddow said, publicizing.

Unfortunately, they're only publicizing for ONE side - that side that gives them all the tax cuts they don't need, redistributing wealth from the masses to the top 2%.

8. And 100% of the Republicans against.
They should be explaining to the American people why not a single one of them has either a heart or a conscience. Bunch of rubberstamping, gutless wonders. I real herd with nary a single independent thinker amongst them.

9. Unfortunately my rep was one of the three..........
I WILL call his office tomorrow and talk to them about it. I've already called once this week to let him know how I feel about the tax situation. This vote does NOT help my mood. Cooper needs to remember that he doesn't represent Bumfuck, TN. He reps an pretty damn urban and left leaning area in Nashville.

11. Excellent analysis of one of the first post-election votes
And it backs up my theory that Congress will NOT pass a middle class only tax cut, even if it has a one or two year extension for the rich. There are loads of pissed off soon-to-be ousted Democratic congresscritters who are more than happy to let President Obama try his luck with the Rethuglican House that is to come.

Why should they help the President? I'm sure they blame him for their losses.
