2. I saw this movie in 1959 or 60 not knowing what the plot was.

I went with 3 fraternity brothers and we were so moved that none of us could even speak to each other for about 10 minutes after the movie ended.

i saw it at the when i was a in 8th or a freshman in high school. i started my political awareness around that time.

the film was released in 1959.

5. an awesome movie and a better book

I remember watching it as a teenager. I read the book while in High School.

6. My mom said she had never been to a movie where

everyone walked out in silence. She said people outside the theater
were handing out info about bomb shelters and claiming the end times.
She said it was very disturbing.

8. One of my all-time favorites

along with "The 25th Hour"...the one with Anthony Quinn circa 1967

OTB was the only time I enjoyed watching Fred Astaire in a movie

10. I never watched the movie, but I did read the book

As a girl.

I have never forgiven the government for scaring me to death when I was a child.

I know the cold war accomplished things like the interstate highway system and NASA, etc., but was it worth it to scare children? Or at least to scare children who were smart enough to hear what was going on, but not old enough to understand?

When I was seven years old, I was afraid that every plane flying over was going to drop the bomb.

13. The Gregory Peck original, or the Armand Assante remake?

Both are good. The last ten minutes of the remake literally had me crying.
