Ford has been competitive for a century, and had the good sense not to chase market whims (Hummer) while ignoring quality.

4. Very hard to compete with
those foreign car companies. They have extreme government support in their countries. Regulations on safety, investments and protective duties that GM could only dream of. They have been taxing gas at 10 times what we have for years and as a result were way ahead of us on fuel efficiency. They have unions that get cooperation from their governments and companies. Don't think for a minute Honda, Toyota or BMW would be allowed to fail.
