New Rule: Do not appoint lifelong politicians to government reform commissions.
And this is a rule I'm dead serious about. If you want unvarnished truth and new thoughts about how the government does things, don't appoint public leeches like Alan Simpson to your commissions. Don't appoint any politicians or politicos at all. Choosing commissioners by totally random lottery would very probably result in more honest work and useful suggestions than anything Alan Simpson could come up with.

1. That sounds like good advice; I would accept administrators of government departments if they
have shown no partisan behavior, but my interview would be tough. Think Tony Soprano.

2. The President should appoint a commission to study this idea.

5. Agreed...on top of that, if you appoint lifelong politicos, you're obviously NOT
appointing people who might actually know something.

7. Not all lifelong politicians are bad but Alan Simpson is just pure evil.
Maybe he should have, I don't know, nominated actual ECONOMISTS to reduce the deficit??!!Kind of seems like a no brainer. Why not get Paul Krugman, Dean Baker, or other people who actually know their stuff.
