Less than 1% of cargo scanned for bombs
after so much hype recently concerning the new screening measures at airports, I did a search on cargo screening. Found a lot of articles concerning new measures to begin screening cargo at airports. But what about cargo coming into our nations seaports. This article struck me as interesting.

Millions of boxes are shipped to the U.S. each year, many of those are delivered on passenger flights in which cargo is checked with an electronic system that does not screen for bombs.] A new Bloomberg report reveals that more than nine years after 9/11, less than one percent of the 14.5 million cargo boxes reaching U.S. shores are scanned for nuclear material, according to the federal government. The Homeland Security Department uses computers to identify possibly dangerous cargo, usually after flights are already en route to the U.S., which is too late. In 2007, the Bush Administration vowed that every single container entering the U.S. would be scanned for radiological and nuclear bombs by 2012.

Our government is all gung-ho about security within our airports but seem rather lax when dealing with our seaports.

Are no longer paying attention to each other and to any unusual behavior.

Which is probably a nation's best line of defense.

11. they may be right if talking about airline cargo
Supposedly the TSA is calling for 100% of all airline cargo to be screened and this may well be happening considering the fact that we're one step away from cavity searches. But when it comes to seaports. No - this is far from being 100% x-rayed and scanned.

The DUers telling you this must have there heads stuck up their homeland security asses. It's all nothing but Security Theatre all in the name of 9/11 baby.

suckers.... every last one of us.

12. To stay on this site, one needs very thick skin.
And dealing with STUPID, that is one of the hardest of all lessons to accept on any internet board.

If someone is impatient with me, and calls me a name, I can deal with it (Though often the mod will delete the offender's remark)

But when people who Know NOTHING brag about how their view of the world is right and how yours in uninformed... And sending them to links won't work, as they don't DO links.

How can you fix STUPID!

13. While TSA can do full cavity searches passengers could be sitting on a cargo hold full of bombs.
One guy said airport security was nothing but 'security theater', an illusion that provides virtually zero additional security for air travelers. Since 9-11 we've been spending billions invading peoples' prvacies but doing almost nothing to secure or inspect the cargo loaded right beneath the feet of passengers. It's all one big joke.

This isn't about security at all. It's all theater.
