31. All he has to do is quit. Some people died to preserve our rights.
Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 11:28 PM by sabrina 1
These Blue Shirts are the equivalent of those who used the Nuremberg Defense. If enough of them refused to treat their fellow Americans like criminals, it wouldn't happen and most of them would still have a job. It shows how far people will go to keep a shitty job. Personally I'd rather starve. And have quit at least one job for less reasons than the violation of the Constitution.

People always wonder would the Military turn its weapons on Americans. I think we are seeing the answer to that question. And the excuse. 'They needed the job, and they were only following orders, it's the bosses you should be mad at'. Sorry, once you are a grown up, you have choices to make. I wonder, how much further will they go if they get away with this? What's next in the Land of the Free {{snicker}}. Excuse me for laughing, but isn't it time to get rid of these declarations of our 'greatness' as a nation? At least until we start earning them?

32. It's always easy to claim you would quit.
You have no idea what his situation in life is. Further, your hyperbole goes way too far, if you want to be taken seriously.

33. Should the Brownshirts have quit?
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 02:02 AM by sabrina 1
They didn't start out the way they ended up. As one German professor writing about the rise of Nazism in Germany said 'it didn't happen all at once, it happened incrementally, so you complained a bit with each new directive, but not enough to make a difference.' Until it was too late. I'm sure those Brown Shirts didn't like some of the things they were asked to do in the beginning either, but they needed the job, jobs had been scarce there, and they were only following orders too. Delivering an eviction notice to a former neighbor, not pleasant, but just part of the job and after all, National Security was at stake.

If you think what I am saying is hyperbole regarding what I would do, I am not in the habit of asking anyone else to do something I would not. I have quit a job, one that I both loved and needed, when I felt someone else was being wronged.

The level if intrusion into the rights of the American people keeps rising. When SHOULD someone just say 'enough'? People will always need jobs, so if that is the reason for not standing up, when does anyone do so? When will they not need a job? When they are asked to torture eg, they need the job, should they just follow those orders and keep the job?

When a government knows it can keep pushing its people because they are scared, or they need their jobs, they will ask more and more of them. But when a government understands that people have limits, that they will not tolerate certain things, they will not dare to try. Somewhere along the way, the people have to let them know where the line is. Or it will be too late, in fact, it may be already for this country. We've killed and tortured and maimed untold numbers of people. So we've already crossed lines that should not have been crossed.

Many Republicans in the DOJ DID quit THEIR jobs over some of Bush's policies. They went quietly, but they could not in conscience, eg, spy on the American people. Those were the people Comey was talking to when HE quit, with tears in his eyes. We didn't know that then, but we know now that there WERE heroes during the Bush administration, most of them Republicans who gave up careers rather than be complicit in the crimes they were witnessing.

They are not being asked to give their lives, just a job they say they hate anyhow. And the chances are if they threatened to do so, their bosses would most likely back down. Especially with the growing outrage of the public to back them up. It's not that difficult. I'm not suggesting death, or torture for them.

Wouldn't want people to cut their feet on broken glass or get their feet rolled over by something with wheels.

They may sue the airport or something..

17. You'd have to arrest all the people at the beach as well
If it was underwear, yes possibly arrest.

Because if I have to fly it's going to get ugly - either I'll wear a bathing suit or leggings and a tank top with no bra.

Would they still have to do the groping?

29. Yeah, I think getting 'born again' goes something like this:
Have an all night orgy with 50 people, then get born again in the morning.

Go on a three week serial killing spree, then get born again.

Rob a bank, and drive to your church and get born again.

Fundies sure believe in a lot of forgiveness I guess because they screw up so damned much. All you need to do is get 'born again' and you get to go to the front of the 'holy line'. If you're Adoph Hitler, Pol Pot or GW Bush, you just get born again and go to heaven, while people who help others all their lives go to fry in eternal hell if they don't get 'born again'. It's a great racket!
