Democratic Donors Set To Go Rogue On Obama

WASHINGTON -- In the wake of an electoral drubbing and fearing another one in two years, some deep-pocketed Democratic donors have decided to essentially go rogue with respect to the Obama White House.

In meetings this past week, some of the top financiers in the party advanced discussions about building a third-party apparatus to counter that on the Republican side of the aisle. The tone, said one person involved in the talks, was remarkably different from 2008, when the Obama campaign urged donors to funnel money strictly into their coffers. In 2010, similar requests are being made -- but they're not always heeded.

"Those days are other," said the individual. "It is a really big sea shift. People said we need an outside structure and we are going to do it. It is no longer 'Will you give us permission to do it, sir.'"

1. This is actually good.
We can fight fire with fire and he can look above it as is his wont.

2. Having watched MSNBC this evening one suggestion...
is that the Dem spokespeople get significantly more media training than they apparently do..

few seemed to articulate the talking points well at all

or that was my impression, anyway :(

3. The R's often seem to be good at one liners that resonate with the masses. They also
often make air-thin points sound like big deals. Some of the Dems IMO are not particularly good at countering this, as you say ...

In the corp. world we really focused/trained on one liners that had impact and could easily be remembered. Many of the Dems seem to lack this training.

It is not my specialty, but I know people that have been trained or at least tested by being videotaped and then critiqued...

Watch Liz Cheney sweep the board with her opinions.. or that creep on Tweety tonight who nearly convinced me that the ultra rich required the tax cuts because it was a jobs issue..

They can persuade you that black is white..

It really is the power of salesmanship to some extent..

Unfortunately, the chosen Dems often sound too tentative or not polished.. :(

7. EXACTLY
time and again I see the Dems let the pukes control the language while they just sit there and don't even seem to notice. I see point after point that they let slip by with nary a word.

8. I don't guess any of them took George Lakoff's training
That worked so well to teach all of us grassroots folks on how to frame an issue.

Pathetic and weak. The party needs soo much work.

14. Most likely the substantial doors,
will favor DLC types if not Blue Dogs. They'd be far more concerned with access to the Oval Office, than to "liberal pipedreams". Someone else on DU had posted the DISMAL track record of "primarying out" an incumbent president. Is that what you guys want?

9. the content of the article doesn't really match the title. I don't see the move 'on Obama'
. . . as much as these groups seeking to counter republican political activity. The notion that they're going to be significantly opposed or at conflict with President Obama's own agenda and efforts, I think, is a false one. Certainly groups and individuals will have differences in some policies from this WH, but it's more likely that the majority of their political initiatives will find ultimate support from the President. I'll bet the individuals and groups mentioned in the article hope so.

19. Like to know where they want to focus. There are a shitload of Clintonites that never say die
that tend to gravitate toward the Bayh/Lieberman area of the spectrum.
