Amazing pictures of protests from around the globe.
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 01:11 AM by readmoreoften
Makes you understand how much activity is going on in the world. Also makes you understand how vapid the Tea Party is.

1. These are heavy, as we used to say in the '60's. I highly recommend viewing
them all. Some breathtaking photography and as readmoreoften says, opens your eyes to what's happening world-wide.

5. There is SO MUCH going on globally. So much to really be excited about
so much to stand in solidarity with. So many strong people who aren't afraid to fight. It's great.

17. Don't forget mobbed-up pimp. Those are his primary qualifications.
Thom Hartmann has a library of Berlusconi's connections, history, and crimes.

What he doesn't have is a useful website.

with the consortium of elites meeting to determine the fate of the world. It's heartening to see these images.

7. This is The DU Post of the Day. K&R. If nothing else, this clearly shows
how the puppet governments are acting in unison to preserve their master's system and, with the notable exception of the United States, how people are beginning to fight back.

13. All spectacular (eventhe anti-Obama ones!)
This one caught my eye:

Polish anti-fascists, dressed as Nazi death camp prisoners, sit on a street to block far-right demonstrators during rallies held to mark the country's independence day in Warsaw, November 11, 2010. Fighting broke out when several thousand far-right demonstrators found their path blocked by a much larger gathering of anti-fascist organizations in the Polish capital. Denying the fascists the "right to free speech!" - stupid bastards should just stay on the sidewalk and give disapproving looks, you know.

American protest is fucking weaksauce.

15. "According to posters here......"
Where? Here on DU? I don't quite follow you.

All those demonstrators, almost exclusively in foreign nations, face SEVERE repression & VIOLENCE for their actions by the cops as well as government agencies. I wouldn't DREAM of suggesting "appropriate" tactics, whether passive non-violence or open confrontation. There are ALWAYS plenty of agent provocateurs around who will do just that.

21. People in the US also face severe repression and violence for protesting.
US protestors don't wear vaseline on their faces for no good reason. After RNC 2008, peaceful protestors were jailed, sodomized; one was gagged, punched, hooded, put in stress positions and called "princess." When he threw up into his hood from pain he was forced to breathe in his own vomit. He was then brought to a special wing of the hospital in St. Paul where he asked to speak to a psychologist or social worker but he was denied help and turned back over to the police.

The bruises from the stress positions and the punches were documented in a press conference after his release, which aired on Democracy Now. The kid's crime was being on a bike when a police officer accidently ran into him. The officer apologized, but a gang of police took the kid anyway. The officer maintained that the collision was his fault and unrelated to protest, but it did no good. He was singled out for treatment inside the jail because he was chanting in complaint because he had not been given food after being held in custody for 13 hours.

Another person who was caught up in the protest accidently on his way to work was quickly released but went to reporters claiming that blood was smeared on the wall inside the jail.

I would call that severe repression and violence.

26. Tell me about it!
I live in downtown Seattle, and was close up to the the entire WTO Week, and I saw , heard, and INHALED much of what took place then. I also went through the book "Freedom Summer" TWICE recently, and am still AWE-STRUCK at the raw courage that was displayed! But again, I wouldn't have DREAMED of advising any of those brave souls on "correct tactics"! Would you have?

How can we be bothered with such trivialities with Full Contact Combat Shopping Season and The Dancing With The Stars Finale right around the corner, not to mention the gripping Bret Favre Saga and The Miami Heat's Quest For A Title (i.e. LeBron James' Entitlement) ?

Where are your priorities, Citizen?

Set The Example!

24. Well there were some Americans in those protest pictures.
And it's not like entire populations are out in protest in other nations either. But we do have quite a circus going on here. My guess is that the circus will continue. But we shouldn't minimize the protests going on here and the organizing going on here; if we do we continue to demoralize ourselves into the TV screen.

Do not misunderstand.

There is so much going on in the World, and my post in contrast was to express my growing frustration to us here in this country, for the most part, drooling and sleep walking obliviously through it all, as well as cocooning ourselves from the horrific evolving nightmare that is happening here as well.

To call what is going on here a Circus is a bit diplomatic.

As I have said before, at the rate we are going, we are going to make the Last Days of Rome look

SANE and ORDERLY

To Paraphrase Jean Luc Picard:

They keep chipping away at our freedom and liberty, and we fall back. They keep expanding the Wars and The Police State, and we fall back. The Banksters and Criminals keep looting, robbing, and stealing, and we just sit back and take it. The Rule Of Law only seems to apply to those who have no choice or resources to avoid or circumvent it, and we can't seem to be bothered.

The Line Must be Drawn HERE. This Far, No Further!

We've made too many compromises already.

When do we draw the line?

I am afraid of the answer to that question these days.

Because I am beginning to think it's a five letter word.

And it's not Today.
