My husband & I went to see this movie last night & we were the only two people in attendance for the Fri night 7:50 showing at the local bazillion screen theater. It seemed a sad metaphor for the status quo.
More to substance: has anyone researched the facts of the incident in detail to determine WHO ordered the burning of Pat's uniform to (obviously) cover evidence? Would circumstances such as this dictate adherence to a chain of command flow of information? I know little about proper military protocol but Pat's story left a disturbing & indelible impression w/me I just can't seem to resolve in any rational manner.

I think the order to destroy his uniform and journals came from higher up.
There are a few more details in the book. You should read it. It's very interesting.
