so that he can be a more effective drone in the corpo machina.
Yes - this is a real talking point for RW economists -
Glenn Hubbard. The unemployed need to re-educate so that they can boot up the economy. Sheesh. Talk about out of touch passive aggressive elitist rhetoric.
Glenn Hubbard & Alice Rivlin on Economic SolutionsThey claim, straight face and all, that in order to fix the economy we need a better educated workforce. People should retrain for the jobs of today.
Never mind that schools do not train you for jobs - they train you for careers. Never mind that school costs big dollars and big chunks of time - more than most can afford when they are unemployed. Never mind that families need to be fed, rent/mortgages need to be paid, cars need to be kept up, taxes need to be paid, health needs to be maintained while one is unemployed and 're-training'.
Popular solutions for the economy from both the left AND the right seem to focus on the middle classes. Specifically, that the middle classes should pay, in one way or another, to fix things.
Glenn Hubbard & Alice Rivlin on Economic SolutionsSomehow it is the middle class, who had virtually no say in driving the regulatory and commercial machinery of the financial world off a cliff, that must help the wealthy and corporations maintain their piles-o-cash. The middle class must provide the economic incentive for companies to hire. I am not sure that I follow this 'logic' (and I hesitate to call it that but I am feeling generous) at all.
And this is a compounding problem. The middle classes have lost so much aggregate wealth that they become more politically irrelevant with each incremental increase in wealth disparity. Because - as the Roberts court has indicated - the bigger your pile-o-cash is, the more 'free speech' you are entitled to.
If you dare - check this for some jaw dropping illustrations of the growing disparity in wealth in this country.
