MAJOR BUMMER!!
For the last seven years, I have been checking out DU in my spare time at work. Two days ago, I went to open DU in my browser, only to get this message:

"THIS SITE IS BLOCKED BY "

because it was now classified as a social networking site!!

CA-RAP-OLA!! What do I do now when I can't get my daily DU fix??? My options are limited; I don't have high-speed access at home (out here in the sticks, there's no cable, and I can't afford satellite service), only dial-up at about half the speed of the rest of the world, so sessions on DU are going to be few and far between at home. I can only get to a library (like now) on rare occasions. So I'm kinda hosed, folks. Looks like I won't be visiting with you much in the foreseeable future (Man, I'm gonna miss NanceRants, MadFloridian, DavidSwanson, kpete, and so-o-o-o many others...!) This definitely isn't goodbye forever, but it's gonna be goodbye for now, at least. But I'll be back, and giving the repiglickin's hell offline in the meantime!!

I-B-C-N-YA, DU!! KEEP THE FAITH, BROTHERS & SISTERS!! KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!

Russ
:argh:

1. Find a good proxy...
...if a room full of 7th graders can do it, so can you.

7. No.
I use AOL, and it's never blocked DU, although if it did, I'd probably have a much cleaner house!

10. Yeah... I'd be much more productive too without the DU temptation...
Oh, well...

5. Get a wireless hot-spot aka a MiFi or get a USB Modem/Air card
You live in Grain Valley, Mizzou right?
You are not THAT far from Kansas City home of a BIG telecom company that has affordable plans and get the device for free.
You be online and happy.

6. Major bummer is right! I'm so sorry! What Republican at your work decided
to do that? I wonder if Free Republic is blocked (I'm so suspicious!)

I have no idea what "find a proxy" means, but it sounds as though you should look into it.

Do you have a laptop? Lunch at a place that has WiFi?

Keep us posted. We'll wait while your posts load. :7

Good luck! :pals:

8. Probably a right winger where you work, complained
try www.freerepublic.com
and if it's available, I would go complain & ask why a site that routinely supports assassination of the president is ok, and DU not ok.

9. Approaching 8 years, I've never once tried to get DU at work.
Every second of my work day, plus a few hours each day outside of my contract, are micro-scheduled. There isn't a moment to take a breath, except at lunch, and I usually work through lunch, the only difference being that everyone has to leave me alone so I can actually get something done.

I can't imagine having a job where I'd have the time to use the computer for personal stuff.

11. This is all the fault of the DU Lounge
Some people use it for social networking, instead of serious lounging.

Or, from the right, this site might look like a socialist networking site, if not a social networking site.

You got any free wifi out there in the sticks? A starbucks or bookstore or public library or something?

I wonder if some network wizard could get you to DU via some sort of intermediate hop, maybe an anonymous link in Finland or something. I'd spend a lot of time at work researching this sort of thing.

:hi:
