Wu-Hoo! The Pope online with support for condoms to prevent HIV transmission!
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 01:03 PM by The Backlash Cometh

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that the use of condoms can be justified in some cases, such as for male prostitutes seeking to prevent the spread of HIV.

The pontiff makes the comments in a book-length interview with a German journalist, "Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times." The Vatican newspaper ran excerpts of the book Saturday.

Church teaching has long opposed condoms since they're a form of artificial contraception. The Vatican has been harshly criticized for its position given the AIDS crisis

2. Ratzinger making some sense lately... Does he have a proxy?
He has been so regressive, I have to wonder if, as in his own case serving as a functioning proxy for Pope John Paul, someone else may have stepped in? Tinfoil tightly wound. ;)

3. I wonder if it's ok for female prostitutes seeking to prevent the spread of HIV?
or just male ones.

6. I think he left that open ended.
No pun intended. It goes to reason, that if it's okay for male prostitutes who carry HIV, it should be okay for female prostitutes who are, generally, serving the same sex: men.

You know, don't you find it interesting that he's concerned with male prostitutes with HIV, and states it so? Because the church's agenda isn't pro-homosexual. So, do you think he knows there's a lot of men who are living heterosexual lives, that also visit gay prostitutes?

7. There are a lot of people who listen to him.
That's why it's important. Remember, the Pope was not on line with Bush's agenda when he tried to turn his war into Iraq as a Holy War of sort.

9. He demonstrates something of an understanding
concerning the problem of AIDS.
My deep regret is that the church did not conclude earlier that condoms were of use in curtailing the spread of this dread disease.
So, so many lives could have been saved. And so many people are dead today because figures in authority would not accept the hard human truth of this epidemic.

Guess which story got more press.

14. Protestants hate Catholics because of this interest in providing for the poor.
However, in the U.S., they found more common cause over this private vs. public school issue for American Catholics to forget that particular tenet of the religion.
