U.S. Regulators Omit Wider Implications of GM Salmon
U.S. Regulators Omit Wider Implications of GM Salmon

By Matthew O. Berger

WASHINGTON, Nov 19, 2010 (IPS) - U.S. regulators are poised to decide as early as next week whether to approve a genetically modified salmon for human consumption.

It would be the first GM animal approved for human consumption, and there are fears that the review process is overlooking key ripple effects of approving the fish.

EXCERPT --

Of much greater concern, says the Science study, is the fact that producing more salmon in aquaculture facilities will require even more wild fish to be caught to feed the farmed fish.

Many environmental groups criticise salmon aquaculture as inherently unsustainable because it tries to raise a predator in captivity, which requires massive amounts of feed.

Don't see where there are any positives in this whatsoever -- only stupid risks and

more damage to nature -- but that's capitalism -- suicidal and still warring on nature

and humanity!!

2. fer crying out loud!
It seems that given the choice between a good idea and a stupid harmful one, our government will opt for the latter 99% of the time.

3. If you love the current day story of the GM salmon, you will equally love
The back story of how we arrived at this situation.

Back in the day, when the government needed a way around onerous restrictions that would have required a decade or two of study before permitting the GM food and crops to proliferate and be put on the American grocery shelves, a man named Mike Taylor DECREED that the GM stuff is similar for all intents and purposes to conventional food. That decree was accepted by our government as a new scientific doctrine, without any proof one way or another if it is true.

At the time, Taylor was working for both Monsanto and Clinton Administration on this issue. And now due to Obama's thoughtful Corporate controlled appointments, he heads up the FDA.

Long life Monsanto. The New God Uber Alles, controller of seed, purveyor of fungus and mold.

European and Japanese citizens will not allow this stuff into their nations.

Silly silly them, to not accept this new "scientific" doctrine!

4. Disturbing beyond description.

JFC, the approval of this type of genetic modification needs to be completely revamped. Can we actually go back to scientific research, as opposed to corporate head nods?

Did notice the article didn't seem to be mentioning corporate names, though I could have missed it.

War by Monsanto -- Food by Monsanto!

Think Clarence Thomas used to work for them, as well -- was just reading that today.

Viruses and worms -- here we come!!

9. Yeah Clarence Thomas had them as a client I believe.
And George H W Bush was heavily into promoting Monsanto.

It seems that no matter which of the Two "Money Party" appendages we vote for, we still end up with Monsanto.

A scientist named Don Huber is very outspoken about Monsanto's GNM food requiring far too much ROundup and that RoundUp is notorious for ruining the soil health. Then the crops surrounded by the product end up very moldy and/or filled with fungus.

6. why does it seem their ultimate end-goal is the really dramatic
Buck Rogers world, where most of nature is a toxic dump? Don't nitpick me because we are on a certain stair & not precisely, exactly IN the vast toxic environment-we're ON the STAIRCASE that MAY lead exactly to that point. It's what goes thru my mind when I read Monsanto's releasing of the 'Terminator seeds', too.
