Moseley Braun kicks off campaign for mayor

Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun said today that if she's elected Chicago mayor she will work to make sure all neighborhoods are represented.

In announcing her bid for mayor nearly a week after she filed petitions to run, Moseley Braun wasted no time taking on opponent Rahm Emanuel, who has run commercials saying Chicago must stay a top-tier city.

"Mr. Emanuel, your commercials pose a completely false choice," she said during her speech on a chilly day outside at Northerly Island before about 150 supporters. "You may not understand it, but the challenge we face is not whether Chicago will be a second tier city, but whether our city will be great for all its citizens."

Moseley Braun said as mayor she'd work to rid the city government of insider deals "when we publicly audit every city department for waste and abuse" and eliminate no-bid contracts.

I'll certainly vote for her if she's on the ballot.

But this is an uphill fight. Emmanuel is going to be able to raise a shitload of cash. I'm already seeing "Emmanuel for Mayor" commercials here.

I think her chances might be good, if the game there is not totally rigged.
