My Wife and I Walked Out Of A Movie Theater Today

WE went to see Harry Potter new movie and when the Beck preview came on I stood up in front of about 150 movie goers and at the middle of my lungs said I don't know about any of you but I don't want my money going in to the bank of this theater for promoting a clown who is a racist self blathering idiot......my wife had already left and I said anyone want to join me in asking management back for your money??

I said the theater across the street has a showing in 20 minutes...... About 11 people followed me out to the desk and asked and got a refund... There was no BECK bullshit ad during the previews across the street...

It's a company called Fathom that is promoting the Beck special. There are several theater chains around the country that show Fathom previews for upcoming specials. I am sure that the theater chains would rather not show controversial stuff like that, but are contracted to do so.

BTW, the theater chain itself doesn't lose any money when you ask for a refund. The only people that would lose money would be the producers of the movie that you were seeing. Theaters make all their money from the concessions. Now if you asked for a refund of your concessions, which you may have, you would have been costing the theater some money.

On the subject, I have DVR at home so never have to sit through commercials anymore, and have adblock on the computer, so the only place I have no choice about commercials and their subtle efforts to gravitate one into a conservative consumer lifestyle is before a movie in the theater. I know a guy tried to sue about that a few years ago but don't know the outcome. Still, don't get why we should have to pay money to see commercials, given how much movie tickets already cost these days.

I don't go to theaters on the strength of what commercials they show. They have hundreds of Glen Beck books at my local grocer, should I stop using them too? I choose my theater according to quality of the seats, quality of the audio system, and quality of the projection. To see a movie with my wife and 3 kids costs me over $100 easily(including popcorn and drinks) . More if it's a damn 3D movie... If I am spending that kind of money I'm more worried about the quality of the experience than I am about what stupid commercials they show.

Plus when I saw that commercial in my favorite theater it got mostly boos and laughs.
