My Letter to my Congressman
I am lucky. I have the honorable Tom Rooney in District 16 here in Florida. He stinks, by the way. Today we received a letter in the mail stating that we will no longer receive the $25 a week stimulus for Unemployment. This on top of the failure of the Unemployment Extension bill (HR 6419), prompted me to write the following letter to Congressman Rooney:

Congressman Tom Rooney
Washington DC Office
1529 Longworth HOB
Washington, D.C. 20515

Re: HR 6419

Dear Mr Rooney,
Thank you so much for looking out for your constituents. Since you think your constituents are the people that make over $250,000, you have done well by them. But you have not done well by those who make less. Case in point: The Extension of unemployment benefits.

This past March, my husband George lost his job where he worked for over 12 years. The construction industry used to be huge here in Florida. We thank the Republicans for messing that up. I mean you have been in charge in Florida for the last 12 years and well things have not gotten better. If it wasn’t for the stimulus program that you voted against, we would not have been able to live currently.

If you truly cared about your constituents, you would have helped to get this bill passed. Since you only care for those people that make over $250,000, I know we are stretching even sending you this letter. When you give people that make over $250,000 a tax break and forget about those of us making a lot less, you let down 98% of Americans. I really hope you are proud of yourself. I am glad that we didn’t vote for you and will never vote for you or any Republican. All you care about is money.

Well today we received a letter from the Unemployment Compensation Department stating that we will no longer receive the $25 a week stimulus check. This may not be a lot to you or your rich friends, but $25 goes a long way in the RockaFowler household. So we thank you for not thinking of your real constituents. Maybe one day you will be out of a job and experience the real problems of everyday Americans.

Thanks for less than nothing,

1. I wonder if letters to Congressmen have any real impact. Often they could

care less to begin with ... I write my R Congressmen here and I might as well be writing to my dog. They could care less. If I do get a response back it's usually explaining to me why I'm so wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if aids just laugh at letters and throw them in the trash. I've pretty much lost all respect for most Congressmen. Most could care less about the citizens. Until we get all of the money out of politics, life is going to suck for many in the US. It will be a long wait.

3. You have that right
Rooney is one of the worst - he's rich and could care less for the rest of us. How about this, though?? How do you serve a constituency when your district looks like this??

I mean it's over 5 counties and in 3 different TV markets. :wtf:

6. It's another WTF moment. I feel I have no representation here at all. The
wealthy areas here are all republican, and in the rural areas they fall for the Fox News BS. I'm getting older now and I'm often wondering what this place will look like in another 30 years or so. I think we have a lot of sociopaths and control freaks moving into politics, and listening to the last election some of them are frankly off their rockers.

And many are in it for the money, power and control, to influence gov. to their financial benefit. The system is rigged against the majority of the populace.

14. I was so pissed at Ken Salazar for confirming Rice & Gonzalez that I wrote a snail mail letter.
I told him I would never send him another dime & very likely I would never vote for him again. A few weeks later I received a form letter response, thanking me for my comments along with a bunch of bull about how Salazar cares so much for his constituency. The real kicker: included was an envelope to send money. Fucking asshole.

We're never getting money out of politics. They electoral system is corrupt & compromised to the point that it cannot be fixed within itself. Between electronic voting, Citizen's United & American apathy, the whole damned system is going to have collapse before anything is done. Then the question becomes, what will be left to work with?

You are right. It's going to be a long & turbulent wait.

I really just want to get this off my chest. I'm sick of all of these rich idiots who could care less about those of us making less than $1 Million!!!!

5. Someone will read it.
I like the way it's written and the sarcasm. Good Luck, let us know if you get a reply that isn't a from letter such as the ones I get from my Repug. Senator.

7. Yeah, that's what we all get here, form letters. Some aid quickly reads the
letter and selects a form letter to send out. We've compared them, just our names are different. And if they can't fit it to a form letter you get no response.

he votes for or vice versa. Then I get the form letter congratulating himself for his votes. :eyes:

11. Thanks. Even though the dork is entrenched in this district, I will always vote
for the Dem who is running against him. If he has no opponent, I will do a "write-in" (one year, I wrote in "Stephen Colbert.").

15. It's a good letter.
If I were you, I'd re-write it as a LTTE. I think LTTE have more impact than letters to Congress.
