Defend Social Security and Medicare: National call-in day November 30th
Join National Call Congress Day on November 30th. Call 1-866-529-7630 and tell your senators to SAY NO to Cutting our Social Security or privatizing Medicare.

The Co-Chairs of the National Fiscal Commission have proposed deep cuts to Social Security – increasing the retirement age to 69, cutting benefits for middle-class workers and reducing annual Cost of Living Adjustments. They are also recommending significantly greater cost sharing for Medicare. We need your help to stop them!

Social Security is a promise that must not be broken—we’ve worked hard for it and paid taxes for it. Social Security belongs to our children, our parents, our neighbors and ourselves.

Tell the person who answers the phone:

You are a voter/constituent living in . I am calling to tell the Senator – NO TO SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT CUTS! HANDS OFF SOCIAL SECURITY.

4. Update--number is for senators only this time

PSARA Update ListTo: PSARA members

Subject: Request to participate in Nov. 30th national call-in day on Social Security

THE FIGHT TO STOP THE CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE INTENSIFIES AFTER THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. We are part of a national coalition planning to flood the Congressional switch board with phone calls on NOV. 30th demanding that the Senate reject any proposal by the Alan Simpson led Fiscal Commission to cut Social Security.

Please plan to make TWO toll free phone calls ON TUES., NOV. 30TH.

Call 1- 866 - 529-7630.

Ask to speak with your senators. Phone calls to the House will happen at a later time.

TELL THEM NO CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY or MEDICARE and NO INCREASE IN THE RETIREMENT AGE. SOCIAL SECURITY DID NOT CREATE THE DEFICIT.

9. With all due respect, this is why our current level of "potests" do not work.
"Opt out" DAY
"Phone in" DAY
"email your____________" DAY

The reason protests were so effective in the Civil rights era, in the Anti-Viet Nam War era,
hell, even in the Suffragette era, and in the many many union strikes and protests, is that they were not limited to ONE day. Or to ONE "event". Or ONE petition.

there was no "march on Washington" for only ONE day...on a Saturday...during Congressional recess, as happened recently the the Stewart/Colbert thing, and even the Beck thing.

The effective protests and marches went on, week after week after week, for months, and even years,
the Congress could not avoid seeing them, the news could not avoid filming them.

One brief flurry of phone calls, emails, massive tho it was, did not stop Congress from passing TARP, did it?

It's not the Congress does not know what we want.
It's that they DO NOT CARE.

Like the joke about the farmer, the stubborn mule, and the 2x4..."first, you gotta get his attention"

18. I betcha this would have made Greatest easily, but there were infiltrating trolls unreccing it.

For this reason alone, The Trinity (Skinner, Elad, and Earl G) might consider getting rid of the unrec feature.

20. Don't skip this just because your representatives are Repubs

Lake Research Partners released a new poll Thursday with dire implications for Democrats should Social Security cuts happen on their watch. And once again, the economy and jobs combined whomped the deficit as the primary concern of voters, 42 to 6.

Overall, of the 1,200 likely voters surveyed, 82% of respondents oppose Social Security cuts to reduce the deficit, including 83% of Dems, 78% of Independents, 82% of Republicans, and 74% of Tea Party supporters. Tea Party!!!! TEA PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The implications for Democrats are serious.

According to national exit poll data, Democrats lost seniors by historic proportions—21 points—in the November mid-terms. Even in 1994, Democrats only lost seniors by 2 points.

The survey reveals Democrats no longer have the advantage they traditionally have enjoyed on Social Security. However, candidates who made Social Security an issue often saved their seats, and voters who say Social Security was a top voting issue voted more for Democratic candidates.

As we have seen in previous work, voters see little relationship between the deficit and Social Security. (Which, of course, there isn’t)

25. Keep calling before the vote
We slammed the phones on Capitol Hill yesterday thanks to your help. In fact, we overloaded the Capitol Switchboard and the phones went down.

Tens of thousands delivered the message: Hands Off Our Social Security! Members of Congress even called our offices and those of our allies to say that they were hearing the calls loud and clear.

The Fiscal Commission was supposed to vote today on a plan to slash Social Security benefits. But they’re still trying to round up the votes. The vote is now scheduled for Friday.

So you have time to call your U.S. Senators TODAY and THURSDAY to make your voice heard. Please call 1-866-529-7630 now.

We know many of you called yesterday but could not get through to the offices because the switchboards were jammed. So please try again TODAY.

Call 1-866-529-7630 right now. There will be less phone traffic today, which should allow you to get through.

We can beat these guys. That’s why we will continue fighting all week against the Fiscal Commission. They released their new proposal for slashing Social Security benefits this morning. Once again it disregards the will of the American people. Their plan will raise the retirement age to 69, cut the annual COLA, and cut benefits overall for middle-income earners by 17% to 36%.

We’ll send you a wrap-up on all your great work on Friday. Call your senators right now at 1-866-529-7630.

Thanks for taking action,
The Strengthen Social Security Campaign Team
